The much anticipated Dominique Ansel Bakery has opened their outlet in Tokyo Japan on June 2015. Dominique Ansel is a genius chef known for his famous Cronut creation in New York, a hybrid pastry between croissant and donut.

Since I needed something sweet to celebrate my birthday, I decided to visit the newly opened Dominique Ansel. Unfortunately they don’t provide or sell any candle for me to blow but that’s okay at least I could satisfy my curiosity with products from Dominique Ansel Bakery 🙂

It is located in the Omotesando area near Harajuku, around 6 minutes walk from Omotesando Station (around 450 meters). The bakery is consist of two floors where the first floor is self-seating where you have to order your food at the counter while on the second floor is a full service with first come first served seating basis.

On the first floor, you could see the bakers making and baking the products with their open kitchen concept. The decoration is also very cute with colorful subway lines pattern design on the wall.

AnakJajan visited Dominique Ansel around 1pm on Saturday, the queue was bearable it took us around 15 minutes to queue unfortunately the famous Cronut 550 JPY was sold out already. If you are dying to try their Cronut, it is advisable to visit the shop early at 8 or 9 am and also they are limiting two cronuts per customer fyi. The famous Cookie Shot 480 JPY, chocolate chip cookie in the shape of shot glass served warm with fresh cold vanilla milk also will only available after 3pm.

Dominique’s Kouign Amann 550 JPY
Or The DKA in short in fact is the most popular item in New York it outsells the famous Cronut. It is a caramelized version of croissant with crispy sugary crust. While we were queuing, the staff gave a some sample of DKA, the texture was flaky soft yet crispy at the same time with rich buttery flavor. It was amazing but too sweet for my liking I decided to order other products since I’ve sampled it already 🙂

Sunflower Tart 700 JPY
The mango lemon tart was shaped beautifully to resemble the shape of himawari or sun flower. The mango was very juicy and sweet, as a whole the tart was nice but not memorable.

Maneki Neko Religeuse 680 JPY
This menu is specially available in Dominique Ansel Bakery Tokyo only. A cream puff based pastry executed beautifully to look like a Maneki Neko, cat-shaped Japanese charm that brings good luck.
The cream puff was filled with yuzu citrus and vanilla cream. Filling was very lovely and refreshing but the sugar glaze outside was extremely sweet I couldn’t finish it.

Frozen S’more 750 JPY
I think this is one of the most popular items in Dominique Ansel Bakery Tokyo because almost every customers ordered this menu during my visit. Tahitian vanilla ice cream covered with chocolate feuilletine flakes and then enrobed in a 100% honey marshmallow.

It is indeed a must have item when you visit Dominique Ansel Bakery. The texture was very delightful, a perfect combination between hot melty freshly torched marshmallow with creamy cold ice cream and chocolate inside I just could’t get enough of it.

Overall, even though all of the products at Dominique Ansel Bakery were too sweet for my liking, the taste and texture of their products were quite enjoyable with appealing presentation. Most memorable one would be the tasty Frozen S’more. Looking forward to try their Cronut someday. Let’s Jajan!!
