Meet the new kid on Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) block, KANPAI Modern Japanese Sumibiyaki and Bar by Sushi Hiro Group. This place is easily gonna be one of the hottest and instagrammable spots in town!
The new restaurant and bar’s tagline is “No Rules” and they surely didn’t hold back. Upon entering, expect to find quirky ornaments and daring design with naughty twist!!
Knowing the fact that it’s managed by the same group of Sushi Hiro, AnakJajan are sure that the food in Kanpai is going to be good, therefore we’re excited about our visit. Fyi, it’s located just a few shops away from Sushi Hiro PIK.
On the interior you’ll find interesting colorful neon work with quirky yet super instagrammable design both on the first and second floor. Make sure to walk around to see the quirky design and for maximum experience, we would highly recommend you to visit during the night when all the lights are turned on.
From the ceiling, stairway, neon lights, menu book design, etc, AnakJajan gotta say that they put a lot of attention into it. Our most favorite area has gotta be the stairway with red artwork, we bet it’s going to be flooded by Instagrammers. 😁
Ok, let’s talk about the food, you can see a bit of resemblance of Sushi Hiro & Sushi Go! menu here. The restaurant and bar serves diverse variety of Japanese dishes from starter, sushi, donburi, noodle, skewer, teppanyaki, oden, etc with modern twist and vast options of both alcohol and non-alcohol drinks.

A tasty version of carrot juice, thanks to the other ingredients, it makes it very refreshing to sip.

We call it dessert cocktail since it’s smooth sweet and milky with lovely aroma of taro.

Irish whiskey, mango, lemon, sprite
For cold refreshing cocktail option, AnakJajan opted for Freaky Thirsty from Kanpai Highball category. It makes a great thirst quencher without being too strong.
Buta Bara Salad IDR 48k
Fresh vegetables with thinly sliced pork belly and tangy dressing, nuff said! The tanginess from dressing gives the pork belly a nice fresh touch.
Super Kanpai IDR 50k
Mr. Jajan loves it so much, it’s basically deep fried inari sushi topped with beef floss, mayo, and tobiko but when you bite it, you’ll get a delightful surprise inside from cheese and salmon.
Crispy Roasted Pork Truffle served with Onsen Egg IDR 90k
Crazylicious Buta Ramen IDR 65k (spicy)
This dish somehow reminds us of Sushi Go‘s Dry Ramen menu, but the difference is here in Kanpai they use pork ingredients. The dry ramen is available in original or spicy version with pork crackling, charsiu, soft boiled egg. The pork charsiu IS DA BOMB! Sooo tender with amazing char-grilled aroma.
Dry Squid Ink Ramen Buta Kakuni IDR 65k
Savory with subtle sweet dry ramen dish served with garlic chips, buta kakuni and soft boiled egg, tasty and enjoyable with milder seasoning compared to Crazylicious Buta Ramen.
Chicken Namban IDR 85k
Easily one of THE BEST CHICKEN NAMBAN IN TOWN! Unlike typical Chicken Namban with deep fried chicken, they use teppan grilled chicken instead which is a genius idea. The chicken was tender juicy and not greasy, while the Japanese tar tar sauce has that nice tangy kick with well-balanced seasoning.
Saikoro Steak IDR 168k
From teppan menu, we opted for Saikoro Steak which was nicely executed. Juicy and nicely seasoned. It comes with 3 dipping sauce, savory, sweet, and sweet spicy.
Gyu Karubi Yaki IDR 120k
LOTS OF LOVE for this one, nicely marinated grilled sliced short ribs. Uber juicy with inviting charcoal grilled aroma. Yum!
Tebasaki Age IDR 55k
The deep fried has that addictive quality with its crunchy texture and savory sweet glaze, it makes a nice drink companion.
Buta Kakuni IDR 65k
This is SO SEXY!! It melts in the mouth instantly! Judging from the soft tender texture and well marinated seasoning, we can tell that it has been simmered for quite long time.
Salmon Milk Miso Nabe IDR 75k
Aside from being creamy milky, it turns out the broth has this nice depth of flavor too, savory and enjoyable. Some people (like Mr. Jajan) might find it too milky, but I personally enjoyed it.
Tsukune Tar Tar IDR 24k// Tsukune Cheese IDR 24k
Tsukune is basically minced chicken skewer, it’s super meaty and enjoyable, best enjoyed with onion-based dipping sauce.
Kiss My Bomb IDR 20k
As the name suggests, it’s da bomb, grilled pork belly skewer with quail egg inside for surprise factor.
Teba Gyoza IDR 22k/ pc
Grilled skewer game is seriously strong in Kanpai, instead of normal grilled chicken wing, we got chicken wing filled with gyoza stuffing inside. DA YUM MAX! Just look at the golden brown grilled skin!
Sexy Beef IDR 35k
For grilled skewer, you can request the seasoning whether you can sweet Teriyaki glaze or classic salt or Shioyaki. For Gyu Toro skewer, we opted for Teriyaki sauce which was just perfect with uber tender juicy texture.
Honey Toast IDR 70k
Overall, Kanpai surely makes a hip hangout spot with one of a kind concept. It’s quirky, naughty, and daring followed amazingly tasty menu as well, out of many items we had, the grilled skewers, Buta Kakuni, and Chicken Namban left a deep impression on us. Looking forward to be back, let’s KANPAI!
