WHERE TO BUY??
Since we’ve visited so many stores and tried so many snacks for countless of time, we can’t hardly remember which store did we got those snacks, but we remember the list of stores we normally visit to purchase those items:
– Matsumoto Kiyoshi
Don Quijote
– Lawson
– 7Eleven
– Mini Stop
– Family Mart
– Circle K Sunkus
– Daily Yamazaki
– Department store such as Daimaru Dept. Store
– Airport
– Any random supermarket you can find out there
These stores above are available widely in Japan, you can easily find it anywhere in Japan. Personally we prefer to shop at Don Quijote since the shop is huge with wide array of products and it accepts Tax Free transaction, you can read the review here https://anakjajan.com/2015/07/30/don-quijote-the-most-awesome-discount-store-in-japan/

DISCLAIMER:
– All items are reviewed based on our personal tastebud, you might find it good or bad depends on your tastebud.
– Some items might be available only on certain season, for example Egg/ Tamago Onigiri, somehow we’re not able to find it on spring/ summer, but it’s easy to find on autumn/ winter.
– It’s impossible for us to remember the price of each item since there are too many stores and too many products.
– We cannot read Japanese, so we are not sure if the products contain alcohol/ pork/ lard.
– Japanese snacks usually has short expiry date (some only last for days or weeks) so make sure to check first.

THE SNACKS:

Onigiri
One of the simple things we miss the most from Japan is these humble simple onigiri from convenient store. Do not underestimate it, it’s cheap, comes with lots of choices, and very tasty. Each convenient store has different options on each season. We really love Tamago or egg onigiri from 7eleven and Family Mart, we usually find it on autumn/ winter.

Ichiran Instant
Missing the yummy tonkotsu/ pork bone broth ramen from Ichiran? Bring back their instant ramen and you can get your cravings fixed anytime. You can easily find it at Don Quijote Japan.

Ippudo Instant Ramen
Best ramen instant we’ve had so far! Please note that this one is available exclusively at 7Eleven only. The broth is rich in flavor, noodle is springy and the best part, it comes with a slice of REAL PORK CHARSIU!(fyi it’s a Tonkotsu Ramen with broth made from pork bone so it contains pork).

As the name suggest, it melts in the mouth easily! There are many variants of Melty Kiss chocolate but their new liquor chocolate has won our hearts especially the Rum Raisin (it contains alcohol if we’re not mistaken). MUST TRY!

Yamachan Squid Snack
Randomly found this at 7eleven near Kyoto station and MY OH MY, IT TASTES DAYUM! Yamachan is our favorite place for Nagoya Tebasaki Chicken Wings and their squid snack is just as good. Crunchy on the outside while chewy on the inside, uber savory and addictive it makes a great companion for beer.

Yamachan Squid Snack

Yamachan Rice Crackers
Found another Yamachan snack, rice crackers with Yamachan’s signature peppery tebasaki seasoning. It’s salty and peppery, perfect for beer companion. We found this at the supermarket on the basement floor of Tokyo Solamachi.

Tokyo Banana
Tokyo Banana undoubtedly is one of the most popular items to get when visiting Tokyo. It’s basically sponge cake filled with custard and it comes in pretty packaging, what’s there not to love. Out of many options, we enjoy Tokyo Banana Strawberry Ginza the most. You can find it at Tokyo Station & Tokyo Sky Tree but we highly recommend you to get it at Haneda/ Narita Airport/ Kansai (Osaka) (Haneda has better and more options), the price is just the same and you can get Tax Free inside airport.

Ok, now after trying it we can totally understand why people rave about it because it’s INSANELY GOOD! The combination of crispy salty potato chips and sweet chocolate is so addictive! The melt-in-the-mouth texture from royce chocolate surely plays a major role here. Give it a try and thank us later 😀

Royce Chip

Royce Nama Chocolate
Royce’s Nama Chocolate is undoubtedly tasty, uber smooth rich and creamy. Compared to Royce in Jakarta, the price in airport is a great deal, it’s around 700yen and since it has to be kept in refrigerator, you can purchase their cooling pack for 100-200yen and it can lasts for 8hours, just enough for your long flight back home.

Royce Nama Chocolate

Press Butter Sand
One of the new and trending omiyage or food souvenir from Tokyo, you can find it at Tokyo Station or Tokyo Solamachi. As the name suggests, it’s pressed butter cookies filled with cream and caramel. For us personally, it’s quite tasty, very buttery and not overly sweet, nice to have not not worth queuing for.

White Strawberry
This one is a bit out of topic but since you’re already in Japan, why not give the white strawberry a try?! The white strawberry has unique and different aroma, it’s juicy and very sweet. You might be able to find it at Tsukiji Market as well as supermarket but beware of the high price, it can costs around 2,000yen for 3pcs.

Sweet Potato Ice Cream at Mini Stop

Onsen Tamago
One of our favorite items for breakfast every morning, Onsen Tamago. It’s cooked and ready to eat, you simply need to crack the egg and enjoy it with soy sauce (included in the packaging). So it’s basically egg slow cooked in low temperature resulting a creamy smooth egg texture.

Onsen Tamago

Lotte Rummy & Bacchus
Meet our new favorite for alcohol chocolate after Melty Kiss. It turns out Lotte also makes awesome chocolate with stronger alcohol taste in it. Our most favorite one would be Rummy with melt-in-the-mouth milk chocolate and rum raisin in it.

Yamachan Strong Rice Crackers
You know, we’re totally obsessed with Yamachan’s peppery salty deep fried chicken wings and this one happens to be the BEST rendition of their chicken wings. The seasoning of rice cracker tastes exactly as peppery and as tasty as the real chicken wings. Please note that the snack is quite salty so it’s best paired with drink such as beer.

Yamachan Strong Rice Crackers

Squid Crackers
This snack is addictive!! It has enjoyable squid aroma and uber crispy, Mr. Jajan loves the green one with wasabi flavor while I love the spicy one.

iFactory Umeboshi No Sheet
Introduced by our colleague, AnakJajan instantly fell in love with this sweet and sour plum sheet. It’s not overly sweet with just the right level of sourness and subtle salty taste. So good! They have various size, so incase if you want to try first, you can buy small pack at nearest conbini.

iFactory Umeboshi No Sheet

Ohayo Royal Jersey Pudding
Seriously one of the best pudding EVER!! It’s sooo smooth silky, creamy milky but just the right level, the texture is quite unique between pudding and pannacota. Our favorite is the original one, but the Milk Tea one (pics below) is also equally delicious.

Another yummy recommendation by our colleague. Imagine noodle in thick rich curry soup with creamy cheese inside, it’s uber yummy and heartwarming. MUST TRY!

Nissin Cheese Curry Cup Noodle

Transparent Drink
Transparent drink has become new hype in Japan. They have milk tea, matcha latte, even espresso drink in transparent liquid. The taste might be a bit light and not sweet enough for Indonesian palate, but it’s very unique and worth trying at least once. So far we have tried a few flavors and the most delicious one would be Aloe Vera Yoghurt flavor.

Transparent Drink

Amanoya Dried Chili Rice Crackers
Mr. Jajan’s new favorite. As the name suggests, the crunchy rice crackers are seasoned with dried chili seasoning. It has a nice chili aroma in it with medium level of spiciness for us.

Amanoya Dried Chili Rice Crackers

Available exclusively in Hokkaido. The Noir is our new found love, a must by every time we visit Hokkaido. The texture is quite similar with Tokyo Milk Cheese but in rich and bold dark chocolate flavor with amazing darjeeling tea aroma in it.

The Noir by Le Tao

Ishiya Original Chocolate Drink
BEST CHOCOLATE DRINK I’VE EVER HAD!! NUFF SAID! The chocolate smells incredibly nice with well balanced ratio between milk and chocolate. Oh by the way this one is also available exclusively at Hokkaido.

Another recommendation from Hokkaido. Omot Cheese is very unique since the texture is somewhere between mochi and cheese, uber soft and smooth, it melts in the mouth easily.
