AnakJajan always excited every time there’s a new restaurant addition by The Union Group. Following the huge success of Union Deli, they recently opened a new highly anticipated brand called Benedict at Grand Indonesia Shopping Town.

Benedict is a new gourmet cafe by two great chefs, Fernando Sindu and Ivan Wibowo. Fernando used to be the head chef of Boqueria New York while Ivan had his experience at Noma restaurant which is the best restaurant in the world at this moment.

In accordance with its name, Benedict serves various all day breakfast menu such as eggs Benedict, fruits cereals and breads, but besides that they also have a lot more of menus to offer such as sandwich, burger, steak, salad asian main course, frozen custard, dessert, homemade pastries, smoothies, milkshakes, juices, infused water, cocktails, beer, etc with price range IDR 40k – IDR 165k for the food and IDR 25k – IDR 145 for beverages.

Benedict Affogato IDR 50k
The presentation of affogato at Benedict is very interesting, instead of the usual espresso with ice cream, they froze the espresso and made it into crushed coffee ice served with creamy ice cream liquid. I love the playfulness between the texture and flavor combination in our mouth, bitter with creamy flavor and soft with icy crystal texture. This could be a dessert idea for non cake or dessert person.

Homemade Granola IDR 60k
AnakJajan are never a fan of having granola but this one was an exception. We love the combination between greek yoghurt, fresh berries, honey and the crunchy homemade granola. It will be perfect if they reduce the portion of honey a bit so it won’t be too sweet.

Scotch Eggs IDR 35k
Scotch egg is a dish consist of boiled egg wrapped in meat and then fried or baked. The version of scotch egg here is kinda unique yet interesting, soft boiled eggs were wrapped in chicken hamburg and then seasoned with japanese mayo and katsuobushi.

63 degrees sous vide egg served with mac & cheese, shitake mushrooms, crispy beef bacon and brioche with potato foam. The presentation was interesting and it taste comfortable.

Mexican Eggs Benedict IDR 80k
An interesting plate of eggs benedict consist of chorizo, peppers, chipotle hollandaise, corn fritters, feta cheese and served with fried cassava. I love how festive the eggs benedict especially with the chipotle hollandaise with a bit of spicy kick in it making me couldn’t stop eating it. I might say that this was one of the best eggs benedict I had.

Foie Gras Rice IDR 165k
This goodness of rice consist of tender shredded duck confit, crispy garlic, sous vide egg, pickled shitake mushrooms and generous size of pan fried foie gras. Mix all of the ingredients well before eating it.
The rice was scrumptious with a lil bit of creamy flavor from the use of sous vide egg being mixed well, but on the other side the rice was a bit too greasy.

Banoffee Pie IDR 40k
The Banoffee Pie was consist of banana, dulche de leche, chantily cream pastry, crusted nuts. I personally enjoyed it very much, it was not overly sweet and each ingredients balance each other perfectly.

Maple Bacon Frozen Custard IDR 30k
There are 5 selection of flavors for the frozen custard but this one instantly caught our eyes. It was the first time we had frozen custard with bacon in it, talking about the ultimate sweet savory marriage. The frozen custard served with brown sugar crumbs, maple syrup, crispy beef/pork homemade bacon. The odd combination surprisingly tasted very good, AnakJajan love how the savory bacon blends really well inside the creamy frozen custard.

Overall, Benedict offers interesting breakfast menu with a great twist, it definitely became our new favorite place for comfort food. Btw, Union Group will be opening another new addition soon called Cafe Milano at Grand Indonesia, super looking forward to it. Let’s Jajan!!
