One of the things that we always miss from Tokyo, Japan is the food scene. There are so many interesting and delicious food to try in this metropolitan city including Gyukatsu from Gyukatsu Motomura (牛かつ もと村), one of the MUST VISIT restaurants or MUST EAT food in Tokyo.
Being one of our favorite countries, we visit Japan quite often especially Tokyo and recently after we discovered the deliciousness of gyukatsu, we’ve put it on our top MUST EAT list and Gyukatsu Motomura is one of the most popular restaurants for this kind of dish.
Gyukatsu Motomura has several outlets in Japan including Shibuya and Shinjuku in Tokyo. The outlet in Shibuya that we visited only has 9 seats while Shinjuku has 22 seats. The restaurant opens at 11.00 and it always has a long longgggg queue. AnakJajan visited Shibuya outlet on 10.50 before the opening time and we had to queue for 80 minutes, so on the second visit at Shinjuku outlet we arrived early at 10.35 to avoid the long queue.
The set meal is available in 3 options of portion, 100gr JPY 1,100, 130gr JPY 1,300 and 260gr JPY 2,100 with additional JPY 100 for grated yam, we highly recommend you to just go for the 260gr or else you will regret it later since it’s freaking delicious!!
Basically Gyukatsu is a beef cutlet deep fried until golden on the outside while still medium rare on the inside you’ll get a nice pink color in the middle. The beef cutlet comes in set meal with cabbage, potato salad, pickles, barley rice, miso soup and grated yam (additional).
How to eat Gyukatsu??
For the beef cutlet, you can season it based on your liking, wasabi + soysauce or horseradish sauce or just simple rock salt and then sizzle it for a few seconds on the mini stone grill then enjoy it with rice.
The rice in Gyukatsu Motomura is supremely tasty with the combination of fluffy rice and barley, if you order the set with grated yam, simply mix the grated yam with the rice to get the nice silky smooth texture (Mr. Jajan loves it so much!).
The beef cutlet itself tastes heavenly!! Extremely tender and succulent juicy, we usually sizzle it for only 2 seconds on each side to keep the meat juicy.
Overall, Gyukatsu Motomura serves unique dish with heavenly taste, AnakJajan got to say the beef cutlet there is definitely worth the price and worth the queue. A MUST TRY INDEED!! Let’s Jajan!
