LEWIS AND CARROLL TEA – Jakarta

A cup of tea makes everything better. Unlike coffee shops in Jakarta that are growing rapidly, it seems like tea shop is growing fairly slow. Gladly there’s a new place in Jakarta focuses on tea called Lewis & Carroll Tea at Kebayoran Lama South Jakarta.

I’ve been curious about this place since its opening and finally last weekend we manage to squeeze our time and pay a visit.

The tea house is very spacious, clean, white and bright. It’s a very cozy and homey place to chill. Talking about their tea, Lewis & Carroll is absolutely not joking as they have wide variety of tea. From Black, White, Green, Herbal, Oolong, Spice, Flower to Fruit, they have it all.

One thing I find interesting is before ordering you can ask the staff to bring the samples of tea for you to smell and choose.

To accompany the tea, Lewis & Carroll offers pretty much selection of dishes from light to heavy meals, sweet to savory such as Salad, Sandwich, Sweet, Savory Bites, All-Day Breakfast, Pasta, etc.

Golden Genmaicha (Hot) IDR 60k
Kyoto obubu green tea, roasted brown rice
A kind of tea that I enjoy with pleasant roasted aroma. I personally think that it tastes the best hot.

Wild Ones (Iced) IDR 40k
Cranberries, elderberries, hibiscus, cherries, morella, raspberry, red rose buds
This fruity tea has a pungent smell but once it’s brewed into drink, it’s an absolutely delightful tea, sweet and fruity with a bit of acidity.

Matcha Panna Cotta IDR 55k
Marked as chef’s recommendation, we ordered this menu immediately. The matcha panna cotta was served with half slice of strawberry and strawberry jam. They manage to pull the texture of pannacotta successfully, jiggly soft and creamy but the matcha flavor was lacking, the creaminess was too overpowered we barely get the aroma of matcha.

Baileys Cheese Cake IDR 50k
Cheese flavor was too subtle but nevertheless I enjoyed the bouncy gelatine like texture and deep baileys flavor. I suspect the cheesecake is supplied by Cheesess as I saw a customer ordered exactly the same Tiramisu from Cheesess (Cheesess’s tiramisu is one of the best in town, die die must try!)

FYI, teapots and tea leaves are available for purchase.

Overall, Lewis & Carroll serves lovely tea with lots of selection it could be a nice and new option to chill and relax. It’s always tea time in Lewis & Carroll.
