Pancake game in Japan is strong and currently the most trending one would be this the soft fluffy airy type of pancake. Talking about it, the best place and most popular place to get this kind of pancake is Shiawase no Pancake or A Happy Pancake 幸せのパンケーキ 表参道 originated from Osaka that is now also available in Tokyo too.
Shiawase no Pancake has recently received Tabelog Japan Restaurant Award 2016 for Sweet category and being such a huge fan of soft fluffy pancake, AnakJajan have been curious about it. So when we have the chance to visit Japan again, I immediately put this place in our itinerary.
The outlet that we visited is located in the lovely neighbourhood of Omotesando, Tokyo, near Omotesando Maisen Tonkotsu. Just a reminder, since it’s sooo popular, there’s always a long long queue in this restaurant so you better come early before the queue is getting longer. The shop opens at 9 AM, AnakJajan reached the shop at 9.10 and we had to queue for 40 minutes, remember to write your name on the waiting list while queuing.
When you enter the shop, you can see how the airy fluffy batter being cooked in the open kitchen. The cafe’s decor is very lovely, simple yet cozy typical Japanese modern cafe with wide screen showing green garden scenery.
The pancake specialty shop serves around 7 options of sweet pancakes and 4 options of savory pancakes to satisfy both sweet and savory person. The price is ranging from JPY 980 to JPY 1,480 for the pancake with few drinks options, Coffee, Tea, Smoothie, Juice, Chocolate, Wine, Beer JPY 420 to JPY 680 (infused water is provided for free).
Happy Pancake JPY 1,100
It takes 20 minutes to serve due to the cooking process. AnakJajan ordered two portions, the most simple and basic one, Happy Pancake consists of 3 original pancakes, Manuka honey whipped butter and caramel syrup.
It was extremely fluffy, soft yet moist, every bite was simply a heaven in the mouth. The butter was also delightful, very light with subtle sweetness from Manuka honey.
Tiramisu Pancake JPY 1,480
During our visit, Tiramisu Pancake was the seasonal menu available, since Mr. Jajan loves coffee, we opted for it. It consists of 3 pancakes, whipped cream, mascarpone cream, dark chocolate sauce and espresso.
The dark chocolate sauce and espresso gave the pancakes a nice kick of bitter sweet flavors followed by light creamy texture from whipped cream and mascarpone for a great balance of flavors.
Price wise, it is a bit high but you can definitely taste the quality where they use 100% home-grown whole-wheat flour, best Manuka honey, butter made from the fresh milk of Hokkaido, quality egg without additives and no baking powder.
Overall, it was the BEST PANCAKE WE HAVE EVER HAD!!! Definitely worth the price and the queue. Let’s travel deliciously!
