Indonesian food is a kind of food that I would never get bored of, however unlike international cuisine, the growth of restaurants focusing on Indonesian cuisine has been pretty slow. That’s why AnakJajan were pretty excited and looking forward to visit this new place in Kemang called Soulfood.
Unlike other places that are competing to serve international cuisine, Soulfood stays true to their roots by focusing on authentic Indonesian food with a bit of twist. It’s located at the same shophouses complex with Koi Kemang and Anomali Kemang.

Reservation is highly recommended, AnakJajan visited Soulfood on holiday during lunch time around 12.30 and this place was packed and full of customers we waited patiently 20minutes to get a table. When there’s a crowd, there’s a reason 🙂
Lemongrass Mint Tea IDR 25k

Keripik Kentang IDR 25k

Kopi Tubruk IDR 20k

Kembulan Lunch Platter IDR 150k (for two persons)
Nasi Cumi Item, Ayam Gejrot Kecombrang, Daging Suwir Kemangi, Tempe Abon Jambal, Sayur Bengkel, Acar Nanas Kecombrang, Sambal Kedondong, Kerupuk Barak

This is the main star of Soulfood, if I may say so. Black squid rice with various mouth watering side dishes. The seasoning was spot on, bold, rich, spicy, sweet, savory combined altogether in one platter, very addicting and satisfying.

Available starting 12pm, the Kembulan lunch set is selling out fast, it was sold out around 2pm during our visit, you better come early if you wanna try it.
FYI, for dinner they also have other set platter consists of savory ribs rice with various toppings.
Jengkol IDR 25k
Being the only one who enjoys jengkol, Mr. Jajan devoured the whole portion by himself happily. The jengkol was cooked nicely till tender and fully absorbed with sweet and spicy seasoning, it was a good jengkol dish.

Aglio Olio Peda Ijo IDR 45k
Both dishes, Nasi Goreng Topping and Aglio Olio took an hour and 30 minutes to be served. The wait was crazily too long. Nobody was taking the responsibility, the staffs we asked keep throwing the responsibility to the ‘kitchen staffs upstairs’ saying normally the food from kitchen upstairs will took longer time to cook but an hour and 30 minutes is just insane 😦

The taste from Aglio Olio was below my expectation as the peda ijo was too subtle, nevertheless it was not bad.

Nasi Goreng Topping IDR 35k
with Jambal Merah and Empal Suwir Sambal Sereh
You can choose the flavor and topping of the fried rice, whether you want peda ijo or jambal merah seasoning and abon bilis honje or abon jambal Jogya or empal suwir sambal sereh for topping. We opted jambal merah seasoning and empal suwir topping and it was a good decision as the jambal merah seasoning was very appetizing. The fried rice was served with fantastic pickled pineapple, crackers and fried egg.

Overall, food were delicious especially the Kembulan set, it was very palatable with bold and rich seasoning, but the service definitely still needs improvements. Let’s Jajan!
