TRANSPORTATION
I haven’t talk about the public transportation in Melbourne didn’t I?
In Melbourne, trains, trams, bicycle and buses are available conveniently for tourist to explore the city’s attraction.
During our trip, AnakJajan used trams the most since it is very convenient and it is available for FREE! You can easily hop on and hop off from the tram to explore the town.
CITY TOUR
One thing that I love from Australia is the city tour, there are lots of city tours available for tourist with specific and fun itinerary to explore the interesting part of the city based on interest from art, history until food!! AnakJajan had two walking city tour, first is Queenies Tram to Market Tour and the second is Chocoholic Walking Tour, it is one of the recommended fun things to do in Melbourne.
Queenies Tram to Market Tour
Three words for this tour, food, tram and market. The tour took 3 hours of walking hopping on and off the tram visiting some of the best spots for foodies, discovering the city’s best cafes, restaurants, produce stories, chocolatiers, foodie laneways and also including tasting session. The tour is available every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for AUD 95/ person. The tour started from our meeting point at Visitors’ Centre at Federation Square and then had a visit to Troy Browns Coffee, Flinders Lane and Queen Victoria Market, you can check the places below for your reference.
T-Roy Browns Coffee
T-Roy Browns is a coffee shop located in a historical building called Banana Alley Vaults that was built on 1890 as a vaults used by produce agents and fruiterers to store their wares before market and usually bananas are being stored and ripened there before being sold that’s why it’s called Banana Alley.
To accompany the coffee, you should try their iconic Jaffles, it is some kind of pressed toast with various savory ingredients such as cheese, beef patty, etc.

Queen Victoria Market
It is one of the historical landmark of Melbourne, the market is still running until now where you can find various fresh produces until imported gourmet food, fashion and merchandise.

The market is made up of several sections such as Meat Hall, Fruit and Vegetables, Deli Hall, etc, it is such an interesting experience exploring the historical building and watching the locals shopping for their daily needs.
American Doughnut Kitchen
Still in Queen Victoria Market, you may spot an eye-catching old-school van with long queue, yup it is the American Doughnut Kitchen.
Known as one of the best doughnuts in Melbourne, American Doughnut Kitcen is very famous and often being featured on television or travel shows. They serve classic old-school doughnut with strawberry jam filling inside, it tastes the best while it’s hot with warm soft fluffy texture, pretty good!

It was a sweet and interesting experience, we totally got chocolate high after the tour.

Patricia Coffee Brewers
I might call this place a hidden GEM! Small little coffee shop tucked in the middle of Bourke and Little Willian streets. The small coffee shop has a modern and trendy design, but since the spot is very small, it is more suitable for grab and go.
We received lots of recommendations on best coffee shops in Melbourne and Patricia is one of it, AnakJajan went there after lunch hour and this place was packed with customers, mostly office workers. The coffee was very nice and smooth, but the winner was their cold drip coffee, so soooo good! We couldn’t agree more that Patricia is one of the best places for coffee in Melbourne.

Royal Arcade
A great shopping destination for tourist, Royal Arcade is a heritage shopping arcade famous for its fashion stores as well as specialty stores and cafes/ restaurants. Gazi
Most of you Master Chef Australia fans must be familiar with the name George Calombaris, one of the famous celebrity chefs that happens to be the judge of Master Chef Australia.
George Calombaris owns a Greek street food restaurant called Gazi in Melbourne, it is one of a must eat places in Melbourne.
Grains AUD 14.50
Major love for this salad dish consists of barley, lentils, quinoa, pomegranate, cumin yoghurt, cauliflower and puffed grains. All ingredients were complementing each other with different texture, I enjoyed the refreshing seasoning with a lil bit of tangy taste.
Tiganites Patates AUD 11
Soft fluffy fries infused with oregano, garlic oil and feta cheese.
Pork Belly Wood Fire Spit AUD 20
Served with white beans, apple skordalia and walnut dressing, the pork belly was very nice, tender, moist and juicy with crunchy crackling on top, and the seasoning was pretty balanced with refreshing and light apple puree sauce.
Chicken Wood Fire Spit AUD 20
Pretty similar with the dish above but with chicken and savory hot pepper tyrokafteri sauce. It tasted pretty good but a bit too oily.
Souvlakakia Crab AUD 14
Homemade pita bread with soft shell crab, mint coriander, honey, mayo. It was pretty good, the pita bread was soft and fluffy, soft shell crab was crunchy with the perfect amount of mayo dressing for extra moisture and flavor.
Souvlakakia Beef AUD 12.50
This one was my favorite, pita bread with tender and fully marinated beef, parsley, onion, mustard mayo and CHIPSSS!! Such a genius combo.
Smoked Salmon AUD 16.50
Salmon smoked with black tea served with dashi yoghurt, salmon caviar, tsoureki
Overall, our dining experience at Gazi was pretty satisfying, the Greek street dishes were unique, flavorful and delicious. If you are interested in visiting Gazi, we suggest you to make a reservation in advance since the restaurant is very popular and often fully booked.
