melbourne 1

Melbourne, known as one of world’s most liveable cities and famous for its coffeeshop and cafe scene, AnakJajan have been curious and wanting to visit Melbourne.

melbourne 1
melbourne 1

And finally we have the chance to visit this beautiful city, we had our #AnakJajanAustralia trip for almost 2 week, started from Melbourne and then move to Gold Coast and Sydney.

melbourne 1
melbourne 1

Famous for its food scene, AnakJajan’s main purpose to visit Australia is to explore its culinary, we explored many recommended places to eat from award-winning celebrity chef restaurant, hip cafes to local markets, but of course other than eating, we also visited some of the recommended places and did some fun activities too.

melbourne 1

I’m gonna write a series of Melbourne, Gold Coast and Sydney travel guide from #AnakJajanAustralia trip recently, sharing our experience. Hopefully it could be a quick itinerary guide for you guys that are planning to visit Australia. Let’s start with the first city, Melbourne.

FLIGHT
Just wanna share our experience flying to Melbourne, we took a direct flight from Jakarta to Sydney using Qantas Airways for around 7 hours of flight and then transfer to Melbourne from Sydney via Qantas Airways for around one and a half hours.

INTERNET
Upon arriving at the airport, simcard is available to purchase mostly at international arrival hall, AnakJajan purchased visitor simcard at Optus with 2 AUD package per day including text, call and 500mb data per day. The connection was stable and we have no problem using it from Melbourne, Gold Coast to Sydney and internet connection sharing via tethering is also possible.

CLIMATE
FYI, there’s 4 hours difference between Jakarta and Melbourne. The weather in Melbourne can be a bit chilly, we visited Melbourne in Mid February 2016, it was supposed to be summer but the weather was quite nice and chilly around 17-19 Celsius.

melbourne 1

Since Melbourne has a reputation for its changeable weather, often referred to as having ‘four seasons in one day’, you better check the weather forecast and prepare the right outfit. Temperatures average 25°C in summer and 14°C in winter.

WHERE TO STAY
In Melbourne, we stayed in Crown Promenade Hotel located conveniently in city centre Melbourne CBD area around 1.1 km from National Gallery of Victoria and 2.1 km from Queen Victoria Market. The room was homey and comfortable, we love the city view from our room.

We were taken around the orchard using tractor to see the lush green fruit trees and then picked and tasted the fruits fresh from the trees. The variety of fruits to try depends on the season itself, during our visit it was peach, tomato and plum seasoned, even the tomato itself has lots of variety with amazingly sweet taste.

ST. Ali Coffee – Melbourne
A visit to Melbourne won’t be complete without having coffee. One of the best and famous coffee shops and roasters in Melbourne is ST. Ali, they have recently expanded its business and opened an outlet in Jakarta.

melbourne 1

Compared to the modern ambiance in Jakarta, the outlet of St. Ali we visited in Melbourne has more edgy trendy warehouse ambiance. And from the menu, there are similarities, some dishes are available exclusively only in Australia, some dishes are available in Jakarta.
