OJJU K-FOOD – Kota Kasablanka Mall, Jakarta

One of AnakJajan’s favorite and memorable meals in South Korea is Cheese BBQ Ribs we had in Seoul where they roll the melting mozarella cheese on the grilled BBQ Ribs. Me and Mr. Jajan were very excited when we found out that this kind of dish is now available in Jakarta at OJJU K-Food, a newly opened Korean food restaurant in Kokas or Kota Kasablanka Mall.

Ojju is located at the UG floor of Kota Kasablanka Mall at Food Society area, the restaurant is owned by the same company group that opens Fish & Co, Marutama Ramen, Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, etc. One important note for Moslem friends, Ojju restaurant doesn’t serve pork dish.

The restaurant offers a rather different concept of Korean food compared to other Korean restaurants in Jakarta such as Budae Jjigae or Korean army stew, Dosirak or Korean lunch box, Ramyeon and Rolling Cheese Ribs/ Chicken Wings.

There were 4 small free banchan or side dishes provided as complimentary, cream corn, cucumber kimchi, kimchi and creamy macaroni, creamy corn was very watery, it wasn’t sweet nor creamy, kimchi wasn’t sour enough and macaroni tasted sweet only, still need to be improved imho.

Corn Tea IDR 22k
Unlike other Korean restaurants, they don’t provide drink as complimentary nor refill drink. AnakJajan ordered 1.2 litre Corn Tea IDR 22k to be shared with friends. The tea was lovely with pleasant roasted aroma.

Japchae IDR 69k
The stir fried glass noodle was decent with balanced seasoning.

Gyeran Jjim IDR 22k
It was burnt at the bottom so I couldn’t taste anything but bitter burnt egg.

Seafood Pajeon IDR 49k
Pajeon is a type of Korean savory spring onion pancake, the pajeon here is still far from perfect with mushy texture and lacking of spring onion in the pancake.

Beef Budae Jjigae IDR 169k
There are 4 types of jjigae available in Ojju, beef, chicken, seafood or vegetables jjigae. For your information, budae jjigae is a Korean army stew dish with various toppings. The budae jjigae comes with tofu, spring onion, enoki mushroom, king oyster mushroom, kimchi, glass noodle, white cabbage, kimchi, beef ham, beef sausage and beef meat for Beef Budae Jjigae.

You can also order additional ingredients for your stew with price range from IDR 9k to 79k.

AnakJajan and friends ordered additional Egg IDR 9k, Tofu IDR 9k, Mozarella Cheese IDR 32k, Korean Ramyeon IDR 22k, Chicken Luncheon Meat IDR 22k, Beef Sausage IDR 22k to make our budae jjigae more festive.

Based on our visit, the jjigae wasn’t the best in town but soup was flavorful and satisfying enough, savory with slighty spicy and sour taste, the additional mozarella cheese is a must have to give the soup a deeper flavor.

Rolling Cheese Beef Ribs IDR 219k
This dish is very similar with the cheese ribs we had in Seoul, BBQ ribs served on a hot plate with mozarella cheese + corn + jalapeno and potato wedges.

For the seasoning of ribs, you can choose the spiciness level mild, spicy or fiery spicy. AnakJajan opted for the mild level and it was quite spicy already. The staff will melt the cheese in front of customer, roll the cheese on the meat and then serve it immediately. The seasoning was scrumptious, spicy, savory and slightly sweet, meat was also tender, it was good enough to satisfy our cravings for rolling cheese ribs from Seoul.

Rolling Cheese Chicken Wings IDR 99k
Compared to the beef ribs rolling cheese dish, AnakJajan personally prefer the chicken wings more as the seasoning tasted more suitable for the deep fried chicken wings.

Fried Rice IDR 29k + Ebiko IDR 19k
After having the rolling cheese dish, don’t forget to end your meal with fried rice for complete experience. The staff will use the remaining cheese from your previous rolling cheese dish to fry the rice with kimchi, seaweed and egg. You can also add additional ebiko or mozarella cheese.

Overall, the concept is very promising, but based on our visit, some dishes are still need to be improved in terms of taste, other than that we must give Ojju two thumbs up for offering new concept of Korean food in Jakarta. Let’s Jajan!!
