PENANG BISTRO – Jakarta

Known for their fresh and life seafood dishes, the Malaysian-Asian restaurant, Penang Bistro is a great option for eating out with friends and family in Jakarta.

Located strategically all over Jakarta; Senayan City, Pacific Place, Pakubuwono, Oakwood Residence, Central Park, Kebon Sirih, Kelapa Gading Mall, Grand Indonesia, and Kota Kasablanka, AnakJajan recently visited Penang Bistro’s outlet in Kebon Sirih and we were quite impressed by how spacious and cozy the place is.

We simply love the high ceiling and vertical garden, making it comfortable yet instagrammable at the same time. Another thing that we found out is the restaurant has lots of private rooms making it very suitable for gathering for any occasion.

Here are some of the dishes that AnakJajan’ve tried during our visit:

Roti Canai Chicken Curry Roti IDR 54k
One of the must have dish in Penang Bistro is their Roti Canai or Indian style pancake. The canai here is crispy version, it’s very buttery savory and crispy, extremely yunmy when dipped into rich curry sauce.

Canai Tissue with Chocolate & Peanut IDR 45k
Sweet version of Canai consist of chocolate and crushed peanut with crispy and super thin canai. This one was surprisingly one of the memorable dishes for us, we enjoyed the sweet salty flavors and crunchy texture, highly addictive.

Penang Special Crispy Duck IDR 140k
This dish is seriously GOOD STUFF!! Crispy deep fried duck marinated with special seasoning. The duck was nicely marinated, crispy on the outside while very tender on the inside. Don’t forget to drizzle it with their special sauce for extra tangy kick.

Malay Mee Goreng IDR 63k
Malaysian style stir fried egg noodle with seafood and hint of tomato based sauce. A humble and comfort dish indeed.

Mayonaise Shrimp IDR 92k
Deep fried shrimp sauteed with mayonaise sauce, major love for this dish, the seasoning was just right, then shrimps were also very sweet and juicy.

Ebi String Bean IDR 64k
Not a big fan of string bean, but this one got us hooked immediately thanks to the use of spicy ebi sauce, salty aromatic with a bit of spicy kick.

Sambal Ebi Prawn IDR 90k
Fried shrimp sauteed in chef’s special ebi sauce. It’s a savoury dish that goes really well with a bowl of warm rice, love that special aroma from the use of curry leaves.

Oatmeal Softshell Crab IDR 85k
The deep fried soft shell crab topped with oatmeal was also delicious, the oatmeal was crunchy, savory, aromatic and buttery. YUMM!

Mango Chicken IDR 82k
To liven up the meal, you can try their deep fried juicy chicken thigh, served with refreshing sweet tangy mango salad.

Fried Tofu Negeri Jiran IDR 68k
AnakJajan always love this kind of comforting dish. Soft smooth fried tofu braised with oyster sauce. The best part would be the topping, it’s sprinkled with crispy salted fish.

Penang Mushroom Golden Egg Yolk IDR 63k
Crispy deep fried mushrooms checked✔️, salted egg yolk seasoning checked✔️, two of my favorite things combined together. AnakJajan are sure you’ll get hooked after the first bite, crunchy buttery savory and highly addictive!!

Overall, fresh great ingredients, amazing flavors, cozy spot. AnakJajan enjoyed our meal at Penang Bistro very much, we got to say that Penang Bistro certainly know how to cook their food especially seafood.
