What’s your most favorite Korean food? AnakJajan bet it’s Korean BBQ, we recently visited newly opened MAGAL Mapo Galmaegi Korean BBQ restaurant in Summarecon Mall Serpong (SMS), it still remains one of our top favorites to get our cravings for BBQ fixed.
The outlet in SMS has spacious seating area, you can easily spot the restaurant from their eye catching yellow signage. Originated from South Korea with more than 500 outlets worldwide with Korean BBQ as their specialty, you can easily recognize the authenticity of restaurant from the certificate by Didim Food displayed in front of the store.
The restaurant has plenty options of meat for BBQ along with a few options of seafood and vegetables. For complete experience, you can try ordering their Beef/ Pork Combo for 2 or 4 people complete with assorted meat, seafood, vegetable, soup and sushi. Specially for this visit, AnakJajan opted for a la carte menu since we wanted to try more variety of dishes, here are our order:
First of all, banchan!! Korean restaurant always serves various side dishes as complimentary, in Magal, expect to find various kinds of kimchi, potato salad, fresh salad, chives salad, vegetables for wrap, etc. We usually love to eat the banchan together with the meat.
Maneul Galmaegi / Garlic Sauce Marinated Pork Skirtmeat IDR 99,8k
If you order at least 2 portion of BBQ meat, you’ll get Gyeran Chuga or the fluffy yummy egg crust for free. The staff will put chopped kimchi on the egg, you can also request to put some freshly chopped chili if you love it spicy.
Me and Mr. Jajan personally loves Magal’s Skirtmeat so much, we simply cannot visit the restaurant without ordering it. It’s available in original/ spicy/ curry/ garlic/ soybean version, we opted for Garlic one. The meat was well marinated, it was savory tender with addictive hint of garlicky aroma.
Gochujang Samgyupsal / Chilli Pepper Pork Rib IDR 99,8k
For Samgyupsal or pork belly, we got the spicy one and it was as good as we expected. Pork belly was tender and nicely marinated with just the right ratio of meat and fat. AnakJajan really enjoyed the caramelized sensation from the chili sauce on the meat. So good, one portion is not enough.
Kkotsal Jumulleok / Marinated Beef Boneless Short Rib IDR 298k
Look at the beautiful shiny beef, for beef, this one remains our all time favorite. The meat was sooooo juicy and tender, grilled beautifully over charcoal grill. It was seasoned beautifully with all the sauce nicely marinated into the meat.
So Yangnyeom Galbi / Marinated Prime Short Rib IDR 258k
If you enjoy meat with more texture, this one could be the perfect one, tender marinated prime short ribs. Wrap it in lettuce with kimchi, egg and ssamjang for complete K-BBQ sensation.
Cheese IDR 55k
Well this is a must have for any cheese lovers. Yup you can order one portion of melted mozzarella cheese as companion for your BBQ meat and it goes really well together. You’ll get double pleasure from the juicy meat and melted cheese!
Cheese Tteokbokki IDR 75,8k
The stir fried rice cake or tteokbokki was served with melted cheese on top, perfect to mellow down the bold taste from chili sauce. It came in generous portion, perfect for sharing.
Haemul Pajeon IDR 98k
Pajeon or Korean savory pancake will always be our favorite choice for K-BBQ companion. The seafood pancake here has just the right consistency with generous scallion and seafood in it.
Galbi Yukgaejang/ Spicy Beef Back Ribs Soup IDR 99,8k
Didn’t expect the soup portion to be this huge with two gigantic beef back ribs in it. The meat was tender and fall of the bone easily, it was meaty, spicy, hot and full of flavor.
Makgeolli (coming soon)
Fyi, Makgeolli or Korean rice wine drink will be available soon.
To end the meal, free watermelon/ ice cream/ iced coffee is served as complimentary, yay!
Overall, delicious BBQ meat, generous and enjoyable banchan or side dish. MAGAL Mapo Galmaegi Korean BBQ never fails to satisfy.
