A taste of nostalgia. Established since 1960, Warung Nasi Tim Baru in Mangga Besar Raya street, Jakarta has been around for decades serving classic homecook Chinese food and Nasi Tim Ayam.

Classic never gets old, when a restaurant can survive for decades with lots of returning loyal customers, the food must be good and consistent.

Upon entering, AnakJajan can instantly get the nostalgic vibes from the old school restaurant decor. As the name suggests, Nasi Tim Ayam is their signature menu but aside from that, they serve wide range of Chinese food and roasted meat as well.

Nasi Tim Ayam IDR 33k
A portion of steamed chicken rice is served with pickled cucumber. The presentation might look simple but seriously it was nicely done! Rice was savory, soft fluffy and not mushy topped with soy based marinated chicken that was delicious, flavorful with well-balanced sweet and savory flavors without being too overpowering.

Babi Panggang Merah IDR 30k, Babi Panggang Asin IDR 30k, Sate Babi IDR 8k, Tahu Kuning IDR 12k
To make it more festive, AnakJajan paired Nasi Tim with additional soy marinated egg and grilled meat. Out of all grilled meat, the Babi Panggang Merah (charsiu) was our favorite, tender meat and nicely seasoned with soy-based sauce drizzled on top.

Tofu was soft and fully marinated with sweet soy based seasoning. Egg, Grilled Pork Belly and Pork Skewers were enjoyable but personally not memorable for us.

Nasi Capcay IDR 40k
The sauteed vegetables on rice was very classic (in a good way) with amazing wok-fry aroma in it. As for seasoning it was just a tad too sweet for us but still delicious.

Kangkung Hot Plate IDR 45k
It has been a while since the last time we had this menu, so Mr. Jajan decided to order it and it didn’t disappoint. It has all the elements we expected for great Kangkung Hot Plate, well balanced seasoning with appetizing aroma from the sizzling sauce on hot plate.

Food trends always come and go, but the classic ones always never fail to satisfy. It’s fun to explore all the new and innovative places but this kind of eatery has the taste that we will never get bored with. Nasi Tim Ayam from Warung Nasi Tim Baru is easily one of the best in town!
