FŪJIN Teppanyaki & Japanese Whisky is the new establishment in Gunawarman South Jakarta specialized in Hiroshima-style teppanyaki and wide range of Japanese whisky following the success of its predecessors Rayjin Teppanyaki Dining in Bali.
Since its opening in early December 2015, Fujin received lots of good responses and is highly praised by those who had visited it.
After hearing people rave about how amazing their food are, we surely have a very high expectation for this place. AnakJajan finally manage to pay a visit for a casual pre-Christmas gathering with foodie friends. Reservation is highly recommended as they are pretty packed especially during weekend, we had to change our schedule from Saturday to Sunday because the restaurant was fully booked on Saturday.
Fujin is specialized in Hiroshima-style teppanyaki, once you enter the restaurant you will notice the huge teppanyaki cooking area along with long bar area in the center of the restaurant. To accompany their food, Fujin provides wide range of alcohol drinks and cocktails.
Chicken Nanban IDR 85k
This one is one of the top recommended dishes by people who have visited Fujin. Chicken nanban is a fried chicken dish that is supposed to be soaked in sweet sour sauce right after being fried and served with tartare sauce but unfortunately the chicken nanban at Fujin was nothing but a sad bland chicken 😦 even five of us didn’t bother to finish it. The tartar and pesto sauce didn’t do much to help this dish.

Pork Belly Syogayaki IDR 85k
Teppan grilled pork belly and onion with ginger sauce. This menu was pretty disappointing too, the seasoning was nice with strong but still enjoyable ginger aroma but unfortunately the pork belly that was supposed to be tender and melts in you mouth turned out to be very chewy 😦
I guess the consistency of food quality is an issue here because my friend told us that the pork belly he had was tender.

Tuna Tataki IDR 75k
Panko coated tuna and avocado with tataki dressing and mayonnaise. Tuna was fresh and cooked nicely, the sauce itself plays an important role in making this dish delicious with its refreshing citrusy tangy flavor. It was good.

Beef Tataki IDR 80k
Compared to the Tuna Tataki, the Beef Tataki was more delicious and we enjoyed it very much. We just love the combination between the lightly seared meltique beef slices that were very tender with appetizing tangy sauce. A recommended dish we must say!

Fujin Yaki Udon Seafood/Pork IDR 70k
Fujin style teppanyaki udon, available in seafood or pork, we opted pork version since everyone is a huge fan of pork dishes 😀
The udon was a bit too bold, its seasoning/sauce kinda reminds me of the sweet savory thick sauce on okonomiyaki that for me personally is too bold for fried udon.

Fujin Hiroshimayaki Seafood/Pork IDR 95k
Fujin Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, we opted for pork version. The batter was soft, vegetables were cooked nicely, overall it was okay but has got nothing much to shout about.

Teppanyaki Garlic Rice S/L IDR 35k/60k
One of our top favorite dishes, a simple teppan fried garlic rice. It was very addicting with inviting charred garlic aroma that made us unable to stop after first spoonful.

Gyoza Pork S/L IDR 65k/95k
Pan fried pork and vegetables dumplings was nice, the filling was juicy and flavorful.

Mentaiko Potato Cheese Pizza S/L IDR 70k/120k
Major loveee this dish. Savoury crepes topped with shrimp, mentaiko, potato, mayo and melted mozarella cheese, a combination that you cannot go wrong with. The potato pizza has the right amount of cheesiness, creaminess, shrimp was also sweet and nicely charred, we enjoyed it so much!

Overall, AnakJajan personally think that the food at Fujin was nice but not as good or as mind blowing as people rave about. Nonetheless, food was good, service was also nice. Let’s Jajan!
