Dubujib and It’s Chimaek Time are located in the same building, I think both brands are managed or owned by the same owner/group only with different name, it’s at the same row with Cake a Boo. The restaurant is not a newcomer, I think it has been opened for months or years but I recently got interested with It’s Chimaek Time after searching for recommendations on Korean Fried Chicken in Jakarta.

Initially we planned to visit this place just for a casual catch up with friends, hence we didn’t take many pictures but it turned out many of you are interested with this place, almost 300 of snapchat users took screenshots of our snapchat in It’s Chimaek Time, so I decided to blog about it.

Upon visiting, I found that besides Korean Fried Chicken, It’s Chimaek Time also provides plenty of interesting Korean food such as Jjimdak or Korean style braised chicken that is quite rare to find in Jakarta, Cheese Buldak, etc, I must say that the dishes they offer are more likely to modern casual Korean food.

Cheese Buldak IDR 138k
Buldak or better known as Korean fire chicken is a Korean dish made from heavily spiced chicken and tteok (rice cake).

Buldak is best served with melted mozarella cheese or Cheese Buldak, the melted mozarella cheese is a great companion for the spicy chicken, it gives the dish a nice creamy aroma and it balances the spicy seasoning nicely.

You can request the level of spiciness of this dish, we opted for medium spiciness which was pretty hot but still in an enjoyable level.

In overall the Cheese Buldak here was pretty nice, very aromatic and flavorful, it’s just the seasoning was a bit too strong to be enjoyed by itself.

Spam Jumokbap IDR 45k
Instead of regular rice, try Jumokbap or Korean version of onigiri (rice balls). Normally the rice is mixed with various colorful ingredients and then shaped into small bite-size balls. We tried Spam Jumokbak that was consist of rice, spam, pickled radish, zucchini, seaweed/nori and tobikko or fish roe. It was nice, perfect companion for the Cheese Buldak.

Jjimdak IDR 180k
Jjimdak is Korean soy-based sweet-savory braised chicken dish with various vegetables and sweet potato noodle, or we call it Korean version of ‘semur ayam’. Unlike Korean BBQ or Bibimbap, Jjimdak is pretty rare to find in Jakarta.

All ingredients were cooked nicely, seasoning was not bad. But in comparison with Jjimdak we had in Korea, the seasoning of Jjimdak here was sweeter and too bold/ strong to be enjoyed by itself. Still and all, it was pretty enjoyable.

Ban Ban B IDR 138k (Half Crunchy, Half Yang Nyum/ Spicy)
I was curious with the garlic oriental fried chicken but unfortunately they don’t have half crunchy + half garlic oriental choice so in the end we decided to try the Ban Ban B which was consist of half crunchy fried chicken and half spicy fried chicken.

Crunchy fried chicken was very nice, seasoned nicely with amazing crunch texture on the outside, very addicting and it was one of our top favorite dishes here. But on the other side the Yang Nyum or Spicy fried chicken was sadly disappointing, the seasoning was too overpowering, it was very bold or strong we did not enjoy it.

Overall, great variety of food, seasoning of some dishes might be too strong but It’s Chimaek Time did a pretty good job in satisfying our cravings for Korean food, hopefully there will be more and more new addition of Korean restaurants in Jakarta. Let’s Jajan!!
