SAPENG – Art of Satay, PIK (closed)

Pantai Indah Kapuk area never fails to impress me with the food scene, from Asian to Western food, snack to heavy meal, classic to the most happening or innovative creations, you can find it all here including Chinese skewers or satay that you can find at the newly opened Sapeng – Art of Satay.

If you guys travelled or ever lived in China, you must be familiar with one of the popular street food in China which is Chinese skewer or satay, various skewered ingredients grilled and seasoned with spices.

Sapeng is located at the new shop house complex at the same row with Legend of Noodle PIK or Native Coffeeshop. They specialize in Chinese skewers with plentiful choices from vegetable to meat skewers.

To order their skewers, you can simply pick any skewers from the display and then choose the type of seasoning that you want. To achieve the best result, they use hot-press when grilling the satay. The price range is IDR 5k to IDR 11k for skewers, IDR 18.5k to IDR 34k for alcohol drinks and IDR 6k to IDR 11k for non alcohol drinks, pretty affordable AnakJajan must say.

For seasoning, Sapeng uses flavorful sauce-base seasoning that has a rich aroma of spices typical Chinese skewers, basically there are four options:
1. Original or Plain seasoning, the skewers will be grilled with basic seasoning with salt and margarine, it is perfect for those who enjoy simple basic seasoning.

2. Sweet seasoning, sweet plus savory sauce that is rich of spices and sprinkled with bit of sesame seeds.

3. Spicy seasoning, sweet plus savory sauce with spicy kick, love the fragrance chili and spices smell in it.

4. Sweet + Spicy Mix, AnakJajan personally prefer this one since it has more balanced flavors between sweet, savory and spicy, highly addictive!

Sapeng has a wide variety of skewers such as meat skewers there are chicken, pork, beef and pork belly with price range IDR 7k – IDR 11k, meat balls and various processed meat just like fish balls, pork balls, crabstick, nugget, etc with price range IDR 7k – IDR 11k, sausage pork/ beef/ chicken with price range IDR 8k – IDR 9k, vegetable skewers just like broccoli, corn, baby potato, enoki mushroom, enoki mushroom wrapped with beef with price range IDR 5k – 10k, and others just like steamed bun/ mantao, chicken wings, spam, etc with price range IDR 6k – IDR 8k.

To accompany the skewers, Sapeng serves various beer drinks, both items skewers and beer are simply a great combo! They also provide dice game for the customer to have fun. They will be launching various heavy meal dishes too very soon.

Out of many skewers AnakJajan tried, here are our top 5 favorites, the juicy Enoki Beef IDR 10k, Pork Sausage or Lapchiong IDR 9k, meaty Pork Belly or Samcan IDR 11k, Pork Spam (Maling) IDR 8k and last but not least the crispy grilled Chicken Skin IDR 6k, these skewers are simply must order! The best seasoning for us would be sweet + spicy mix sauce, with just the right amount of sweet, savory, spicy flavors.

Overall, Sapeng offers a great variety of Chinese skewers with nice ambiance, it could be a great option for hangout in Pantai Indah Kapuk area with friends. Let’s Jajan!!
