A new restaurant in Neo Soho Mall has just opened with unique concept where we can dine and meet the cute Penguins, Pingoo Restaurant by Jakarta Aquarium.

UPDATE: Just want to clear the air to address some of your thoughtful concern about the Humboldt Penguins in PINGOO Neo Soho, so we would like to share some facts that we found.
It is a part of Taman Safari Indonesia’s program to conserve and increase their population. The penguins have been successfully bred by Taman Safari Indonesia with over 40 successful hatchings in safe environment since the natural habitat in the wild is decreasing and the animal need safe place to live. So in this post, you’re looking at the 3rd generation offspring and hopefully by the time the cute little penguins’ population will increase.

The new restaurant opened since 28th Dec 2016 is a part of Jakarta Aquarium, an indoor aquarium endorsed by Taman Safari Indonesia and Aquawalk Sdn. Bhd. that will be opened soon in Neo Soho lower ground floor.

The restaurant is decorated with beach house concept using white, blue and turquoise colors with dimmed light, there’s children playground area in the corner to entertain the kids and also a huge aquarium as the playground of penguins.

Offering American seafood and grill dishes, there is no entrance fee for Pingoo Restaurant but customers have to spend at least IDR 300k per table.

AnakJajan visited Pingoo early to avoid the crowd and queue but unfortunately the food will only be available starting from lunch time 12PM even though it opens at 10 AM, so we didn’t have any choice but to order drink only.

Jakarta Aquarium claims that they have fully trained professional teams of penguin keepers and aquarist to take a proper care of the animals on daily basis complete with high tech life support system to ensure the animal enjoy their new home in the best possible environment. So I believe the penguins should be well taken care of. There were 6 penguins during our visit, some were sleeping while some were swimming around happily. They’re soooo cute and fun to watch but it was soooo hard to take picture of them since they move sooo fast. The restaurant offers Penguin Feeding Experience for IDR 50k but it was still not available during our visit.

There are plenty variety of food offered in Pingoo, salad IDR 65k – IDR 90k, appetizer & nibbles IDR 60 – IDR 100k, soup IDR 55k, pasta IDR 65 – IDR 85k, steak IDR 170k to IDR 270k, grill, casserole, seafood bucket, etc. For the drink you can find lemonade, iced tea, mocktails, soft drink, tea and coffee with price ranging from IDR 20k to IDR 38k.

There were only half of drink menu available, so AnakJajan opted for Melon & Lime Lemonade IDR 35k and Lychee Lemongrass Iced Tea IDR 38k, both are normal and not overly sweet but somehow the glasses felt greasy.

Overall, with such a unique concept, AnakJajan do hope that the food and beverage can worked out well, since the menu looks appetizing, after all it’s a restaurant, a place to eat. AnakJajan highly recommend you to visit early perhaps at 11.00 AM on weekday to avoid long queue and also they start to take food order from 11 AM.
