These past three years, there are lots of new generation of coffee shops and coffee roasters opened in Jakarta as well as other towns embracing the concept of third wave coffee trend that is exploding around the world.
These recent years, I think you can find new coffee shops popping up every single month especially in Jakarta and surrounding area with hip trendy yet cozy vibes offering their own specialty and signature coffee, not to mention the opening of foreign specialty coffee shop such as Toby’s Estate Coffee and St. Ali Coffee.
In Pluit – Muara Karang area alone, there are many new hip coffee shops popping up especially over the past year such as Ombe Kofie, Ottoman, Viverri and currently the newest one is Coffee Aya located in Muara Karang across Thai Fook near aroma seafood.
The coffee shop consists of two floors furnished with minimalist modern concept with interesting play between cement and Scandinavian style furniture. The menu options offered are not too many, coffee and non coffee drinks along with few selection of cookies from Surely Someday Kitchen and also small tartlets.
For coffee, you can find various espresso based coffee drinks, manual brew v60 is also available. Our friend ordered their Piccolo IDR 27k and it was wayyyy too strong for a cup of piccolo, we must say that it was more likely to a cup of espresso with just a very small amount of milk. Then another friend’s latte from previous visit was also very watery, well that’s such a typical problem for new place, consistency. But luckily our Cappuccino IDR 37k was very well made, smooth with medium body, we enjoyed every single sip.
