Comfort food made special, meet the new one-of-a-kind establishment in Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, specializes in Japanese ochazuke, Zenraku Dashi Chazuke (open for public on 19th Jan 2018).
Situated on LG floor West Mall Grand Indonesia, just right across BAKE Cheesetart, the restaurant can be easily spotted.
As the name suggests, Zenraku offers Japanese dish with simple homely taste called Dashi Chazuke or maybe many of you are more familiar with the name of Ochazuke. It’s basically Japanese dish enjoyed by pouring mixture of hot water and tea over cooked rice.
The food selection is quite simple, there are 9 options of Chazuke and 2 options of Somen including some side dishes, for the main dish the price ranging from IDR 49k to IDR 72k.
Kakiage IDR 15k
Hiyashi Tomato IDR 28k
This side dish got us surprised (in a good way), the Japanese tomato is packed with flavor, juicy and very sweet with clever refreshing dressing. It’s tasty and fresh even for a non-tomato lover person like me.
Salmon Dashi Chazuke IDR 68k + Tarako IDR 38k
Salmon Dashi Chazuke consists of aburi salmon, rice, spring onion, mitsuba leaves, and sliced nori seaweed. It’s served with 4 condiments; umami dashi soup, pickles, wasabi, kinpira or some kind of sauteed vegetables. To make it more festive, extra toppings are available to order ranging from IDR 12k to 38k. AnakJajan ordered extra Tarako or salted cod roe to add more color and taste to the dish.
As you can see, the connecting link of Zenraku’s dish is their Umami Dashi soup, it combines all ingredients together into one harmonious dish. The soup is indeed full of umami and the balance is just spot on, clean but very savory and rich in flavor, just perfect to warm the body and soul. Love the fact that they serve the soup on hot thermos so it remains hot until the last drop.
Unagi Dashi Chazuke IDR 68k
There are recommended steps to enjoy Dashi Chazuke the best, first is enjoy it as it is without soup, then pour the umami dashi and enjoy it while it’s hot, after you finish the rice, pour the reminder soup and slurp the warm umami dashi soup.
Sampler Dashi Chazuke IDR 72k
Since our tummy capacity is limited, AnakJajan ordered Sampler Dashi Chazuke with unagi, beef, and chicken. Out of 3 toppings, Unagi one has the best taste for us personally, the sweet teriyaki glaze on unagi goes really well with savory soup.
While the chicken one fell short of our expectation with lightly salted plain white chicken fillet, well it’s still edible but not as tasty and as memorable as others, there’s room for improvement perhaps by grilling the chicken or adding any additional seasoning to give the chicken more dimension.
Tarako Dashi Chazuke IDR 68k
Out of several options, Tarako might be the less familiar topping but the salted cod roe tastes amazing. It’s salty and filled with seafood essence but not fishy, just perfect match for fluffy Japanese rice and hot dashi umami soup.
AnakJajan gotta say that it’s quite a bold move to bring something less familiar like this to Indonesia’s F&B scene which we highly appreciate. All we can say is we enjoyed the food, it’s very comforting and palatable.
