Every time we miss Japan, the easiest and quickest cure is to visit Japanese restaurant in Jakarta. For a casual Yatai vibes, recently AnakJajan visited Tanpopo in Gandaria area, South Jakarta, that’ve reopened with new concept serving Teppanyaki, Hamayaki, Yakiniku, and Suki Shabu.
UPDATE: Tanpopo has opened 2nd outlet in Pluit area, here’s the review https://anakjajan.com/2018/11/02/tanpopo-jakarta-pluit/
Situated on the street right across Gandaria City Mall, Tanpopo offers unique dining experience with Yatai or Japanese street food stall arrangement. With the new concept, it has new layout setting that looks neat with the chef’s cooking area in the middle.
Just a quick info, all menu contains NO PORK & NO LARD, so it can be enjoyed by everyone. There are various options of Beef, Chicken, and Seafood for us to choose, and there are 4 cooking types to choose: Yakiniku, Hamayaki, Teppanyaki, & Suki Shabu. Judging from our recent visit, AnakJajan gotta admit that Tanpopo is doing a great improvement with their new concept compared to the previous one. Let’s take a closer look.
Yakiniku Beef Chuck IDR 45k // Yakiniku Short Rib IDR 35k
Specially for Yakiniku, they now use bigger and more practical charcoal grill on the table. Good improvement! We got two types of sauce for condiment, one is savory then the other one is sweet, personally we love to dip the meat into the sauce before grilling it.
The thinly sliced Short Rib is our personal favorite, best dipped into the sweet sauce condiment and grilled to perfection.
Hamayaki Karubi IDR 25k // Hamayaki Gyutan IDR 25k // Hamayaki Momo Teriyaki IDR 15k // Hamayaki Squid IDR 15k
The Japanese style barbecue skewers were grilled over charcoal, that explains the delightful smoky aroma. Momo Teriyaki or chicken thigh and spring onion Hamayaki was our personal favorite, tender juicy smoky with tasteful sweet teriyaki glaze.
Teppanyaki Salmon IDR 70k
For teppanyaki, each portion comes with garlic chips and vegetables on the side. As for seasoning, for the salmon we got the creamy mushroom seasoning, it was decent and enjoyable.
Teppanyaki Beef Chuck IDR 55k
Teppanyaki Short Ribs IDR 45k
Smoky thinly sliced meat grilled to perfection over charcoal grill with savory seasoning, nuff said!
Teppanyaki USA Rib Eye IDR 90k
If you fancy big chunk of beef, go for the USA Rib Eye.
Suki Shabu Sukiyaki (Soup + Vegetable) IDR 30k + Short Ribs IDR 35k
The Suki Shabu Sukiyaki comes with vegetables, you can order any beef, chicken or seafood add-ons to the broth. AnakJajan opted for thinly sliced short ribs that goes well the broth. The soup itself was enjoyable with well-balanced sweet and savory taste.
Suki Shabu Original (Soup + Vegetable) IDR 30k + Short Ribs IDR 35k
For Suki Shabu, the original soup was my personal favorite. It looks simple but nicely seasoned and packed with umami, a nice comforting soup to warm the body.
Crepe Suzette IDR 30k
Overall, visiting Tanpopo can be an affordable escape for Japanese food fix. Since it has that Japanese street food stall vibes, visiting Tanpopo just brings back all the good memories we had in Japan.
