Gyutandon, I wonder if you’ve ever heard about it? or even tried it? Basically it is a beef tongue rice bowl dish whose popularity has increased since the last two years in Jakarta. One of the most popular places for Gyutandon is Menya in Melbourne, as so many people raved about it AnakJajan got excited when Gyutandon by Menya is finally available in Jakarta in Negiya Donburi – Citywalk Sudirman.
A while ago, AnakJajan finally have the chance to visit this relatively new restaurant in Citywalk Sudirman 1st floor. Negiya is a restaurant specialized in donburi or rice bowl dishes and they are officially collaborating with the famous O-Bento Group/ Menya Ramen from Melbourne for the Gyutandon.
Gyutan Don Set IDR 110k + Additional Egg IDR 10k
The staff told us that the set version has 25% more meat than regular bowl, that’s why we chose to order the set version plus additional egg. You can also order the non set version of gyutandon for IDR 78k.

The set comes with bowl of miso soup and salad, soup was tasty while for the salad was overly dressed with nutty sesame dressing.
The gyutan or beef tongue was thinly sliced with savory yet buttery seasoning, it tasted good by itself but it was too bland when I pair it with rice. In terms of texture, the meat was elastic and egg was fluffy yet creamy. It was decent but we personally still prefer the gyutandon from Cranky Crab.
Infused Water IDR 16k
For drink, AnakJajan opted for Lemon Mint infused water, it was refreshing but as you can see from the picture below the mint leaves have withered and start to change its color from green to brown.

Oyakodon IDR 45k Regular
The way they cook the oyakodon or chicken rice bowl is totally different from traditional or usual Japanese oyakodon I’ve ever had. Normally the beaten eggs is simmered in a sweet and savory stock and served half cooked but this one they cook the egg omelette style fully cooked with chicken, mushroom, carrot, onion and spring onion. In terms of flavor, it was not bad but it tasted too sweet and lacking of salty flavor, luckily we can add soy sauce and it tasted better after the addition.

Overall, Is it good? It’s decent. Is it good enough that I would rave about it and come back for more? nope! Personally it was just okay for us. How about you? Where’s your favorite place for Japanese rice bowl or Gyutandon?
