BOON TONG KEE – Jakarta, Indonesia

The famous Boon Tong Kee from Singapore has opened a new outlet in Pantai Indah Kapuk North Jakarta Indonesia. The first outlet is located in Kelapa Gading area and it has been open for quite some time already but we never noticed after the second outlet in PIK opened recently in March 2016.

Famous for its Hainanese chicken and rice, Boon Tong Kee also serves various home-style Chinese food dishes from seafood, meat, vegetable, etc. The restaurant in PIK is located in the new shop area at the same row with Legend of Noodle PIK.

Crispy Cereal Fish IDR 125k
Dori fish fillets covered with crispy cereal and then dipped fried until golden and topped with egg floss. This was quite nice, we enjoyed the crispy texture from the cereal, very aromatic.

Squid Ring with Mayonnaise IDR 70k
Deep fried squid ring with mayonnaise dipping sauce. The squid was cooked nicely, not chewy while crunchy on the outside, the addition of meat floss topping added a nice savory taste.

Sweet and Sour Pork IDR 135k
Sweet and sour pork was the only pork dish available that night, it tasted decent with pretty small portion.

Tofu Claypot Seafood IDR 89.8k
Tofu claypot with various seafood, the seasoning was okay but we are not a fan of their tofu claypot since they used normal tofu instead of soft egg tofu.

Signature Boiled Chicken IDR 105k Half/ IDR 198k Whole
The boiled chicken was pretty enjoyable and quite delicious, but we had better in other place. Chicken was juicy and tender and it was drizzled with light soy based sauce that gave the chicken a nice savory taste.

Signature Roast Chicken IDR 105k Half/ IDR 198k Whole
The roast chicken was dry and bland, I’m not sure if it is supposed to taste like that or not but we personally didn’t enjoy the dry chicken.

Signature Hainan Rice IDR 11.5k
Their Hainan rice probably the best item we had that night. It was soooo good, the rice was shiny and cooked perfectly with extremely great savory seasoning and appetizing aroma of garlic.

Overall, our dinner experience honestly was way below our expectation considering the high reputation, it was still a decent meal but not something that I would rave about, but well this is just our personal opinion from our experience and personal taste.
