Li Feng is a new restaurant opened recently in Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Jakarta. The restaurant offers authentic and traditional Cantonese cuisine with a modern twist.
Li Feng has an elegant interior concept with traditional and modern mix of Chinese ornaments as you can see from the pictures. The whole decor including ocean shaped ceiling is inspired by voyage history and spices trade between Fukien and Batavia, the old Jakarta a long time ago.
The restaurants offers various authentic and traditional Cantonese cuisine, they also serve extensive dimsum menu from steamed, baked, deep fried till pan fried. Situated in a fancy setting, to our surprise, the price in Li Feng is pretty reasonable, for example the price for dimsum is ranging from IDR 21k to IDR 118k. If you’re planning to have a dimsum feast, AnakJajan highly recommend you to visit on lunch time because the full dimsum menu is only available for lunch, but some dimsum dishes are still available for dinner such as the signature Swan Dumplings, Har Gau, etc.
Crispy Fish Skin with Salted Egg Yolk IDR 68k
Me likey!! Fish skin deep fried until crunchy seasoned with salted egg yolk sauce. The fish skin has a nice addictive crunch texture while salted egg yolk sauce was nicely cooked with buttery taste and hint of spicy flavor.
Spicy XO Scallop Dumpling IDR 32k// Squid Ink, Seafood and Fish Roe Dumpling IDR IDR 32k
Please note that both dumplings were served in sampling portion for food tasting purpose, the normal portion of dumpling is 3 pieces. Both dumplings were nicely executed with thin elastic skin, juicy fresh and well seasoned filling, the Spicy XO Scallop dumpling is a must must try!!
Imperial Kungfu Soup IDR 148k
Stewed chicken and quail with matsutake, cordyceps flower and dried longan, this is a very comforting soup with tender soft meat and nutritious warming broth, a perfect soupy dish for rainy season.
Swan Dumpling with Black pepper Duck Meat IDR 89k (6pcs)
Here it is, the star of our meal in terms of presentation. Pretty looking swan shaped dumplings filled with black pepper duck meat. The black pepper duck filling was lovely, savory and flavorful altogether, while the dumpling skin was crunchy but I personally think it would taste better if the skin could be slightly thinner.
Sauteed Beef with Szechuan Pepper and Chili IDR 378k
Savory tender beef cubes cooked with spicy savory seasoning, the mala peppercorn added a nice spicy kick in our tongues.
Sweet & Sour Chicken with Pineapple and Bell Pepper IDR 98k
Soft tender deep fried chicken seasoned throughly with sweet & sour sauce, crunchy bell pepper and juicy pineapple.
Wok-Fried String Beans with Dried Shrimps and Garlic IDR 68k
Mr. Jajan loved this dish so much, the savory string beans were cooked nicely with delightful crunchy texture.
Braised Hele Crab with Japanese Rice in Hoisin Sauce IDR 218k
This dish was an enjoyable rice dish with just the right amount of savory flavor from hoisin sauce and sweet flavor from the crab with sticky texture typical Japanese rice texture.
Three Dessert Platter IDR 118k
For dessert, AnakJajan had the dessert platter consists of deep fried glutinous rice dumpling with frog jelly and coconut milk, blueberry snow skin dumpling and chilled mango with pomelo sago cream. The most yummy one was blueberry snow skin dumpling with silky smooth mochi-like skin and creamy yet fruity filling.
Overall, tasty dimsum, nice Cantonese cuisine, fancy decor, reasonable price, Li Feng is definitely a great addition to the food scene in Jakarta. Looking forward to revisit for yumcha session with Mr. Jajan. Let’s Jajan!!
