When you’re craving for authentic Korean food, Senopati – Gunawarman – Wolter Monginsidi areas is certainly a great place to find great restaurant to satisfy your cravings since there are lots of hidden gems for Korean food in those areas and one of the example is Cheong Dam Garden, traditional Korean grill & food restaurant.
Following our satisfying visit to Seorak Chuoetang or Bumbu Satu Restaurant in Senopati area, AnakJajan recently discovered another gem for Korean food, relatively new Cheong Dam Garden restaurant. The restaurant is located next to Emelie, right across Wilshire
It was an impromptu visit after having sweet afternoon tea in The Westin Jakarta hotel, we were looking for something different and new then our friend came across a Korean restaurant that we’ve never visited before and the Bosam Kimchijjim looks sooo tempting so decided to give it a try.
Cheong Dam Garden serves all kinds of authentic Korean dishes such as Porridge, Soup, Stew, Rice, Noodle, Hot Pot, Fish, Pancake, Kimbab, Mandu/ Dumpling, Tteokbokki, Sashimi, Bokum, BBQ, etc. Price is a little on the high side but still reasonable considering the generous portion, great ingredients and yummy complimentary (also refillable) banchan or side dishes.
During our visit, we were given 12 complimentary side dishes or banchan if I’m not mistaken, spinach, kimchi, beansprout, kimchi cucumber, tteokbokki, salad, jeon or Korean pancake, fish cake, sweet potato, chive kimchi and fresh vegetables, including 2 sauce condiments and complimentary coffee or Korean tea plus fresh watermelon to end the meal. AnakJajan must say that each side dish is a work of art, nicely executed with amazing flavor and texture, the pancake was crispy on the edge while soft flavorful in the middle, kimchi on the other hand was very tangy and bold due the long fermentation process.
Mandu IDR 90k (10pcs)
Korean dumpling or mandu here is available in steamed and deep fried options, gladly we can get half steamed and half fried. The dumpling skin was thin and elastic while minced meat filling was juicy and nicely seasoned.
After returning from #AnakJajanKorea autumn trip, me and Mr. Jajan cannot stop thinking about the delicious mandu or dumpling from Myeongdong Kyoza in Seoul, so we were glad that the Mandu in Cheong Dam Garden were decent enough to satisfy our cravings.
Daoeji Galbi IDR 155k
For Korean BBQ, AnakJajan opted for Daoeji Galbi or grilled spareribs marinated with soy sauce. The meat was tender and well marinated with sweet and salty taste with pleasing aroma from the grilling process. To make it even tastier, wrap the meat with fresh lettuce and ssamjang sauce. The ssamjang or sauce made with fermented soybean paste in Cheong Dam Garden was incredibly GOOD!! The best in town AnakJajan must say!
Bossam Kimchijjim IDR 425k
Bossam is a pork belly dish boiled until tender then served thinly sliced. You can find traditional Bossam dish here, but you can also get bossam in kimchi stew version just like the one we ordered.
The braised kimchi dish consists of old kimchi, bossam, potato and spring onion. It was the star during our visit, pork belly was incredibly tender and juicy with all those flavors absorbed nicely into it, then the soup was spicy and tangy with rich depth of flavor. Highly recommended!
Overall, Cheong Dam Garden is a happy finding, AnakJajan are happy to find another great gem for authentic Korean food in town, we left the restaurant with happy tummies. Will be back soon since there’re lots of interesting and yummy looking dishes that we want to try. Let’s Jajan!!
