Pork Katsudon IDR 98k + Set IDR 20k (rice, miso soup, salad, pickles, & ocha)

AnakJajan notice lately, lots of new spots popping out in Jakarta and Jakarta greater area are more to coffee shops than restaurants. Whenever we search or ask for recommendation for new spot in town, I think 90% of our findings are coffee shops. Compared to coffee shop, we personally feel that there are less new restaurants opening this past year, we wonder why??🤔

Anyway, after looking for new restaurants, AnakJajan stumbled upon Birdman, a new Japanese gastropub in SCBD near Senopati area, we decided to give it a try since we were craving for Japanese food.

The decor of Birdman is very clean, simple and modern with the use of white walls and furnitures. For us personally, the decor has a great potential but we think that it’s too plain and it lacks of something, an x factor, maybe painting or anything to make it more interesting? Well, that’s just our personal notion, maybe they want to keep it simple like that.

Birman Ramune (Green Apple) IDR 58k
Ramune is a carbonated soft drink originally created and sold in Japan. Here in Birdman, they created their own Ramune with a few options, Green Apple, Yuzu, Lychee, Pink Berries, & Kyoho Grape. AnakJajan opted for Green Apple and it was refreshingly delightful, we enjoyed the fresh green apple taste, it was light and not overly sweet.

Potato Croquette Sukiyaki IDR 45k
For starter, we had Potato Croquette Sukiyaki, it’s basically deep fried potato croquette served with beef sukiyaki and egg yolk. AnakJajan gotta say that this menu is quite an interesting choice, in a good way, we love to dip the croquette into sweet sukiyaki sauce and creamy yolk.

Pork Katsudon IDR 98k + Set IDR 20k (rice, miso soup, salad, pickles, & ocha)
This was our favorite dish during the visit. The pork katsu was nicely cooked, tender, nicely soaked and cooked with egg mixture. The seasoning was very well-balanced, savory with subtle taste of sweet, very aromatic. The side dishes from additional set were also satisfying, the miso soup was on point, pickles were nicely marinated, salad was decent, our tummies were happy! MAJOR YUM!

Kalbi Steak Don IDR 120k + Set IDR 20k (rice, miso soup, salad, pickles, & ocha)
Another dish AnakJajan had was Kalbi Steak Don, slices of beef kalbi and velvety soft boiled egg served over rice. The beef was very tender and fully seasoned, but for us personally the seasoning was lacking of something, it was rich with very bold soy sauce taste but it was not savory enough, if you know what I mean. Well, nevertheless it was still enjoyable though.

When it comes to new eating places, consistency is a big challenge, so many new eating places out there struggle in keeping up the consistency of their food, some days are good, some days are bad.

We do hope that Birdman can keep the consistency of their food, since we had a great experience during our visit, the food were tasty enough to make us consider coming back.
