Known as one of the legit restaurants in town for their Szechuan dishes, Lac Mei Che restaurant in Mangga Besar has been in our list for a while and finally we had a chance to try it and share our experience with you.

With the rich use of spices and bold spicy taste, Szechuan cuisine is certainly not for everyone, it’s either you love it or hate it but that’s the charm. AnakJajan have to admit that we’ve fallen in love with Szechuan cuisine this past year and if you follow WWW.ANAKJAJAN.COM you may be aware that we’ve featured quite a lot of Szechuan restaurants.
Located in Mangga Besar area, Lac Mei Che has been around for quite sometime and it’s always packed with loyal customers mostly family. The restaurant serves extensive range of dishes from seafood, meat, vegetables, etc, everything looks tempting if only we have unlimited tummy space, we would have ordered everything.

Mapo Tofu IDR 68k
This dish might look less appealing compared to others but the taste is exceptionally good!! Soft yet firm white tofu cooked in thick bold spicy sauce with minced meat. The seasoning was just perfect with rich umami taste, spicy bold and savory with strong numbing sensation from the use of mala peppercorn. MUST ORDER!

Babi Crispy Asam Manis IDR 88k
Deep fried pork fillet with sweet and sour sauce. The pork was tender on the outside while crispy on the inside but the best part has gotta be the sweet sour sauce, it has a nice orange citrusy aroma that is just perfect to kill the greasy taste from deep fried pork.

Mala Xiang Guo
Mala Xiang Guo is basically Szechuan savory stir-fry dish with spicy numbing sensation. You can choose whatever you want to be cooked in Mala Xiang Guo, here at Lac Mei Che there are 68 items to choose. At times like this, me and Mr. Jajan tend to over order and yess we went crazy and chose 8 items; Beef IDR 68k, Pork Ham IDR 38k, Beef balls IDR 38k, Oyster Mushroom IDR 22k, Enoki Mushroom IDR 25k, Potato IDR 15k, Lotus Roos IDR 32k, and Tofu Skin IDR 22k.

The spiciness level is medium but it has a totally strong numbing sensation after a few bites thanks to the generous use of Mala peppercorn. It was pleasant but definitely not the best one we’ve ever had as we expected bolder taste with stronger spices aroma.

Buncis Cah Cabe Kering IDR 58k
Basic yummy green beans stir-fry dish that simply cannot go wrong. It was savory and well seasoned.

Ayam Goreng Szechuan IDR 88k
Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, savory and aromatic with medium level of spiciness, what’s there not to love? The chicken was very addictive, AnakJajan couldn’t stop after the first bite.

Overall, Lac Mei Che is certainly a gem for Chinese food especially Szechuan cuisine lovers. Since the servings are large, we would recommend you to visit with friends or family so you can try and share more dishes.

What would be the best szechuan in Jakarta? Loved South Beauty before but sad it’s now closed
Lac Mei Che could be one of the recommended, as for the best I think it depends on personal taste.
