PAGI SORE – KEMANG, Jakarta

Rumah Makan Pagi Sore Kemang, since 1973. Offering premium Minang dining experience, Pagi Sore Kemang is managed directly by their original outlet (Palembang, South Sumatera), so it’s undoubtedly the place to go for authentic flavors.

Located in Kemang Raya across Shell gas station, Pagi Sore Kemang has unique colonial influence for the building design. Upon entering, you can feel the fine dining vibes, not the intimidating way but the homey way.

The restaurant interior is totally different from other Minang/Padang restaurant since it’s very chic, homey and clean, it feels like you’re eating in a dining room from someone’s home.

AnakJajan recently visited the restaurant to answer our curiosity. let’s take a look at some of their dishes.

Nasi Putih IDR 10k, Ayam Pop IDR 22.5k
You might have heard about the famous Ayam Pop, well it’s not just a rumor, AnakJajan gotta say that THE TASTE TOTALLY LIVES UP TO ITS REPUTATION!! Da bomb yum!! Best Ayam Pop we’ve ever had!

Ayam Pop IDR 22.5k

The simple looking chicken was very soft and tender covered with silky smooth coconut based sauce, complemented nicely by thick red sauce. If you haven’t try it yet, you should!

Ayam Goreng IDR 21k
Even though we had Ayam Pop, we just couldn’t resist the temptation of their fried chicken since it looks so tempting. It didn’t disappoint and turned out to be very satisfying, tasteful and nicely marinated, served with special sweet soy sauce based dipping sauce.

Ayam Goreng IDR 21k
Pindang Gulai Iga IDR 40k

Ikan Bilis IDR 25k

Kepala Kakap IDR 75k
AnakJajan were told that Gulai Kepala Kakap is one of their signature dish so we give it a try. The snapper fish head was very huge and full of meat, the meat itself was fresh, dense yet soft and not fishy at all (major plus point) with all the rich gulai flavor fully absorbed into it. Price wise, we gotta say that it’s reasonable considering the taste and also the huge portion.

Rendang Daging IDR 21k
Do you agree that we can judge a good Minang/ Padang restaurant from their rendang?? Well Pagi Sore Kemang has a good one with thick rich seasoning that’s packed with flavors while for the meat it has a nice texture, and not too chewy.

Gulai Cumi IDR 28k

Gotta give their green chili a special shout out!! The green chili has a very pleasant taste, savory, aromatic, spicy, and addictive with small anchovies in it.

Each dish has its own strong point, when mixed together in one plate, they complement each other nicely. AnakJajan normally prefer have takeout for Padang/Minang rice because it tastes more delicious usually, but honestly Pagi Sore is an exception. Surprisingly we had the same satisfaction level from our dine-in session.

Sate Padang
Their sate padang seasoning is quite different, it has more intense coconut flavor, richer taste (in a good way), and also delightful smoky grilled aroma in it.

Mixed Fruit Cocktail
Perfect sweet, sour and refreshing ending to clean the palate after all the rich flavorful dishes.

Overall, Pagi Sore Kemang has super comfortable homey place, great quality of dishes, incredibly delicious flavor, and also very clean. AnakJajan can easily agree that it is one of the BEST in town for authentic Minang cuisine. For sure we’ll become a regular customer there!
