New in town, ANIMALE restaurant at MD Place Building, Jakarta offering progressive American cuisine with flavors from the Mediterranean. You can expect to find new approach of cuisine with more diverse techniques and concepts with touch of Mediterranean flavors. We heard that Dry Aged Steaks & Fish, House Made Pastas, Wood Fire Burning Pizza, and Charcuterie are their signature dishes.
The whole restaurant with dimmed lights uses raw stones and wood material alot. The interior concept is ‘habitat’ inspired where guests are welcomed with ‘ocean’ and then continue to ‘land’ concept inside restaurant.
They have al fresco serves as smoking seating area with ‘mountain’ concept and also VIP rooms. It makes a good place for date night, we’re sure the restaurant will be packed with couples on Valentine’s day.
Judging from the how the restaurant looks, it might feel a bit intimidating for some people. It turned out the price range isn’t as high as we expected, the average spending per person is around 400-600k per person (well, depends on your order). Let’s take a closer look of some of their signature dishes, it might give you an idea about which menu to order.
Tomatoes IDR 140k

The buratta with tomatoes tasted very fresh with great flavor dimension thanks to the use of vinaigrette and balsamic.
Pig ear fries IDR 95k
crispy fried, pickled gerkhins, horseradish remoulade
Crispy and addictive are two perfect words to describe this dish. The pig ear fries were crunchy and easy to chew, add a bit of lime juice for nice tangy zesty kick.
Wagyu & foie gras IDR 175k

Our kind of perfect dish for starter. The flavor combination was really mind blowing, fresh yet rich in textures and flavors.
Pork chops IDR 395k
tomahawks, smoked paprika, artichoke & champignon sauce
This dish is perfect for meat lover, particularly pork lover. The pork chop tomahawk was gigantic, a bit too huge for us but the sauce was amazing!! Rich but just in the right level.
Kingfish IDR 195k
7 days, crudo, cherry tomato, zuchinni, fennel, micro coriander, coriander seed & basil vinaigrette
Have you heard about dry-aged fish? Well, that’s one of Animale’s specialty. The goal from dry aging fish is to tenderize and reduce excess moisture of each fish resulting more flavorful fish. The dry aged kingfish has interesting fish texture unlike any other fish we had (in a good way), solid good!
Tiger prawns 10-15 IDR 185k
harissa glazed, cured cucumbers, tzatziki, crumbled feta
The prawns were packed in Mediterranean flavor, love the creamy fresh sensation from the cucumber.
Lamb Kofta IDR 185k
grilled then stewed in terracotta, confit garlic, shallots & tomatoes, green tahini, sesame flatbread
The lamb kofta has great meat texture. Meat was chopped beautifully, not too fine so we can still enjoy the meat texture.
Salmon IDR 195K
chermoula kabobs, cilantro & red onion slaw, oven cured tomatoes, barley risotto
We heard that they use dry-aged salmon for this dish, no wonder the salmon was tender but packed with flavors. Loved the fiery taste from the grilling process, the barley risotto added nice texture too. It was very palatable, we will definitely order it again on next visit.

Shortribs “Tomahawk” IDR 645k
pastrami rub, apple & red cabbage sauerkrauts, green olives & smoked paprika aioli, rye crouton
Our top fav!! The shortribs tomahawk was crazily good. Love the charred meat aroma on the outside and melt-in-the-mouth meat texture, the smoked paprika aioli played a great role in giving the meat nice tangy creamy kick.
Beef cheek IDR 225k
tagine, caramelized fuji apples, almond & golden raisin couscous
The portion of beef cheek was huge, tender altogether with bold seasoning. It was properly made, only didn’t taste as impressive as other dishes.
Lamb neck IDR 195k
slow roasted, baby romaine, pickled carrots & red onion, tahini, flat bread
Mr. Jajan loved this dish so much, that’s a huge statement coming from a non lamb lover like him. The slow roasted lamb neck has kick of spicy taste in it, seasoned beautifully and paired nicely with the flat bread and condiments. So good, we might consider ordering it on next visit.
Truffle hunter IDR 145k
roasted mushroom pureé, straciatella, roasted garlic, crispy sage, white truffle oil
The flatbread style pizzas here are made with sourdough starter and gluten free crust is also available. Truffle hunter has all the good elements for truffle and mushroom lovers, savory cheesy with just the right thickness of crust.
All the pasta dishes are freshly made in house and there are wide selection of pasta option. It’s kinda therapeutic experience seeing the fresh pasta making process from the open kitchen.
Linguine nero al bronzo IDR 175k
aglio olio, grilled slipper lobster, burnt garlic oil, anchovies, chili flakes
The linguine was cook with great level of doneness, slightly firm but elastic, seasoned just right, savory garlicky and slightly spicy.
Ravioli IDR 225k
hokkaido scallops, watercress, fennel, red onion, pomelo-lemon-orange beurre blanc
The ravioli dish was my top “want to try” list since each ravioli is filled with seared scallop. The pasta has just the right thickness and elastic texture with beautiful seared Hokkaido scallop in in it, love the citrusy kick from the use of pomelo-lemon-orange beurre blanc.
Malloredus IDR 175k
brown butter & truffle burro fuso, parmesan crusted bone marrow
One of the most talked dishes would be this one. This pasta dish has rich buttery taste, therefore we highly recommend you to order it for sharing so it won’t be too heavy to finish on your own. We really enjoyed the play of textures from it, firm but chewy pasta, soft bone marrow, plus crunchy bread crumbs.
Truffle truffle IDR 75k
valrhona caramelia ganache, sea salt caramel, truffle scented
Sweet, salty, chocolaty, with strong hint of truffle aroma. Nuff said!!

Oops cheesetart IDR 110k
molten center, camembert, gorgonzola
The cheesetart was PURE PLEASURE on each spoonful. It has molten center with just the right composition of cheese, cheesy tasty but certainly not for everyone since it has this funky taste of blue cheese. Lucky us we love any kind of cheese, even the funky ones so we can appreciate the taste of this cheesetart. SO GOOD, we couldn’t stop talking about it. 100% gonna order it again on next visit. Hmmm I wonder if they sell the whole tart, coz it makes the perfect bday cake for Mr. Jajan.
Apple pie IDR 90k
filo pastry, ricotta, brown butter ice cream
The apple pie is sugar free, we heard that they use natural sweetness of apple and honey to make this dessert sweet. The brown butter ice cream was da bomb yum! Creamy smooth buttery with nice hint of burnt butter aroma in it.
Overall, we love Animale’s new approach of dish, it offers something new and something different compared any other places. Great quality followed by amazing flavors, easily one of the hottest new spots in town.
