Meet our new finding, Meatman Nikuo Japanese restaurant. A hidden gem located in a small alley in Summitmas building, SCBD Sudirman area, Jakarta.
Upon arriving, you can totally sense homely Japanese eatery vibes from the store exterior with simple ornaments typical Japanese restaurant. The restaurant covers extensive range of Japanese dishes from sashimi, ramen, yakitori, onigiri, kamameshi, etc. From Monday to Saturday, they have special lunch menu set that looks tempting and worth trying, unfortunately it was unavailable during our visit on Sunday.
Kani Kinoko Kamameshi IDR 88k
Kamameshi is a traditional Japanese rice dish cooked in an iron pot and it usually takes longer cooking time at least 30-40 minutes so it’s advisable to order this menu in advance. Out of 4 options, AnakJajan opted for Kani Kinoko Kamameshi with truffle flavored rice topped with snow crab & mushroom and it was a great choice. The rice was very fluffy, buttery and full of umami with subtle hint of truffle oil aroma, the seasoning was savory and well-balanced, we just love the juicy sweet sensation from the use of corn. Absolutely worth waiting for!
Rare Maguro Toro Katsu IDR 78k
We ordered this dish since it looks very tempting on the menu book. It’s basically fatty tuna rare cutlet served with garlic and tonkotsu sauce. The fatty tuna was shiny and tender but it has unpleasant hint of fishy aroma, I guess we prefer raw tuna more than cooked one.
Beef Butter Yaki IDR 78k
The spaghetti dish is cooked with stir-fried beef and onion topped with chopped spring onion. The taste was pleasant and comforting. The thinly sliced beef cooked with onion was savory with subtle sweet taste, just like typical beef topping on gyudon. Well, what’s there not to love?
Maguro Natto 68k
Mr. Jajan was feeling adventurous so he ordered a dish with natto since the last time he had natto was last year in Japan. The Maguro natto bowl consists of fresh slice of tuna with spring onion, seaweed, wasabi, egg yolk and natto. Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans, it usually has stringy slimy texture. AnakJajan gotta admit the funky taste is definitely not for everyone, but hey it’s okay to be adventurous once in a while.
Chicken Nanban IDR 58k
An all time fav dish that simply cannot go wrong. Deep fried chicken with creamy tartar sauce and zesty vinegar sauce for a nice balance.
Beef Sukiyaki Kushi IDR 33k/pc
Knowing that it’s going to be good, AnakJajan ordered 2 skewers since we don’t want to share and it was DA BOMB!!! The beef sukiyaki was full of flavor with nice caramelization from the grilling process, then inside we got juicy enoki mushroom and spring onion, sooo goood!!! It tastes even better and creamier when dipped into egg yolk.
Overall, visiting Meatman Nikuo was totally a great idea, it reminds us the good memories we had in Japan, another visit is a must since there are many other dishes that we’re tempted to try.
