WARUNK UPNORMAL – Jakarta

Indonesian and Indomie are inseparable. It is no longer secret that Indonesian people enjoy their instant noodle so much. The flavorful rich noodle is just undeniable and Warunk Upnormal from Bandung is one of the most famous places to enjoy it.

Warunk Upnormal is a very famous eatery from Bandung specialized in indomie, toast, milk and coffee.
Initially, Warunk Upnormal was established to answer the need for clean and cozy place to enjoy instant noodle and toast.

Following their success in Bandung, Warunk Upnormal has expanded their business to Banten, Cimahi, Tasikmalaya, Jakarta and Tangerang.

AnakJajan visited Warunk Upnormal’s outlet in Cempaka Putih, it is the first outlet in Jakarta. Consists of 2 floors (non smoking on the 1st floor and smoking area on 2nd floor), the interior inside is very cozy and hip with wooden furniture, brick walls and various instagenic ornaments.

When it comes to customizing the flavor of instant noodle, Warunk Upnormal is one of the pioneers, they have wide variety of unique and innovative Indomie creations such as Salted Egg Yolk, Rendang, Bolognese, Pizza, etc in pretty affordable price with price range from IDR 6k to IDR 37k for the food. Here are some of the dishes AnakJajan tried:

Indomie Upnormal IDR 16.5k
This is Mr. Jajan’s number 1 favorite dish here. Savory Indomie soup and beef with homemade cheese sauce resulting a creamy noodle soup. It was very comforting and delicious with the right amount of creaminess, no wonder it’s one of the best selling dishes.

Indomie Goreng Sambal Matah IDR 14.5k
For spicy fresh version of Indomie, AnakJajan highly recommend the unique Indomie Goreng with Sambal Matah. Sambal Matah is a signature raw sambal from Bali made from raw shallots, lemongrass and chili.
It was tasted fresh, flavorful, spicy and tangy altogether, one of our top favorites!

Indomie Gokil IDR 14.5k
This was AnakJajan’s first time eating dry Indomie with ‘kikil’ (or beef cartilage from the leg) and it was a genius combination. The ‘kikil’ was very tender, well marinated and well seasoned with homemade spicy green chili seasoning and it was very suitable with dry ‘Indomie Goreng’.

Nasi Gokil Upnormal IDR 16.5k
Besides Indomie, Warunk Upnormal also serves various rice dishes. Just like this one below is Nasi Gokil Upnormal consist of rice, sunny side-up egg and ‘kikil’ with spicy green chili seasoning. It’s pretty much similar with the Indomie version above, only with rice and egg.

Nasi Wagyu Saus Mushroom + Telor IDR 26.5k
Thin slices of 100gr Wagyu beef served with mushroom sauce and sunny side-up egg over rice. The beef was tender and the mushroom sauce tasted savory and slightly creamy.

Nasi Beef Chili IDR 24.5k
Love this spicy rice bowl dish with beef cubes cooked in spicy chili & shallot plus sunny side-up egg. Beef was tender and well seasoned, the spicy seasoning made it an enjoyable and satisfying bowl of rice dish.

For extra enjoyment, Warunk Upnormal offers various additional toppings such as egg, sausage, corned beef, grated cheese, spicy kikil, lenggang kikil and corned beef egg.

Besides the filling Indomie and rice dishes, Warunk Upnormal offers various toasts and grilled banana with innovative flavors that could be a perfect option for snacking. For the toast, their signature is toast with green tea/ banana/ taro powder and condensed milk, you can order Half-Half just like ours to enjoy two flavors together. Then for the grilled banana, both grilled banana dishes below are the most recommended flavors, AnakJajan enjoyed the ‘Pisang Bakar Keju Brown Sugar’ very much, we just love the sweet caramelized and salty cheesy combination.

For a sweet ending, you can try Warunk Upnormal’s version of Taiwanese dessert with various toppings such as pudding, bubble, ice cream and their homemade signature nutella/ lemon cheese mochi. Our personal favorite dessert would be the sweet Alpukat Milo Kerok, scraped avocado topped with milo and condensed milk, an ultimate killer combination!
