Offering Nikkei experience, Fat Shogun in Menara BTPN Mega Kuningan, South Jakarta area is a rare new gem for Jakarta’s food scene serving Japanese Peruvian cuisine.

Unlike Italian, Chinese, Indian and many other cuisines, Peruvian cuisine is rather uncommon in Jakarta. Peruvian cuisine is very interesting since it’s influenced by so many cultures from the immigrants from Europe, Asia and West Africa where they modified their traditional dishes using local ingredients available in Peru for example Japanese – Peruvian cuisine.

Fat Shogun specializes in Japanese Peruvian cuisine is located in Menara BTPN Rooftop Level right beside Atico restaurant by Java Negra. In case if you’re curious, Fat Shogun is managed by the same group that owns Lawangwangi Creative Space in Bandung.
The spacious restaurant has captivating interior, chic modern with touch of traditional vibes for example Japanese influenced wooden gate. AnakJajan were told that the chef, Chef Dicky Riadi used to work in Nobu restaurant in Miami for years before moving back to Indonesia and here in Fat Shogun he recreated some of Nobu’s signature dishes.
Sake Shogun

Red Shogun IDR 50k
Soursop sorbet, orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice, pomegranande syrup, house soda

Sake Dap De’i IDR 120k
Housesake, genever liqueurs, vanilla liqueur, homemade honey syrup

Tuna Tataki IDR 140k
The tuna was fresh and nicely seared on the outside then sliced thinly, topped with scallion and served the tataki yuzu sauce. It got me hooked after the first bite, seriously so good! The sauce plays an important role in making this dish heavenly with its tangy fresh kick, it’s perfect to stimulate the appetite.

Ceviche Red Snapper IDR 80k
Traditional Peruvian raw seafood or fish, fresh seafood cut into small pieces, cure & balanced with lime juice, onion, jalapeno pepper served with cracker chips.

Tuna Over Crispy Rice IDR 115k
Major love for the Tuna Over Crispy Rice, the combination between spicy tuna and tobikko with crispy rice was perfection. It was soft, crispy and spicy altogether in every bite. Yumziee!

Tostados Tuna IDR 80k // Salmon IDR 75k
Nikkei style toasted tortilla topped with fresh slices of sashimi grade fish (Tuna/ Salmon), creamy sauce and avocado. The presentation of this dish kinda reminds me of Akira Back’s Tuna Pizza but it tastes different. The tuna and salmon were fresh and complemented nicely with creamy avocado but the seasoning was kinda lacking of addictive factor.

Shogun Roll IDR 120k
Roll of prawn, cream cheese topped with slice mango & avocado

Lazy Salmon Roll IDR 125k
Deep fried classic roll, filled with baked salmon & cream cheese, topped with spicy fried salmon, garlic chips & green scallion

Miso De Mariscos IDR 65k
Served in Japanese pot, the miso broth consists of festive ingredients, shrimp, clam, fish, seaweed, scallion, shredded snow pea and fried onion. The broth was packed with umami and savory, only a tad too salty for my liking.

Tiradito Salmon IDR 120k
Thin slice of sashimi grade Salmon with spicy red pepper tiradito sauce, topped with coriander leaves
Crab Salad IDR 80k
The salad consists of fresh greens, crab meat, tobikko, seaweed crispy salmon skin and sesame dressing. Love the simplicity of this dish, it tasted very fresh yet buttery nutty from the dressing.

Black Cod Misoyaki IDR 185k
One of the signature dish from Nobu that the chef brought to Fat Shogun, Canadian black cod marinated for 36 hours then served with horenzo and crispy sweet potato. AnakJajan must give two thumbs up for this dish, the fish was incredibly flavorful and buttery with rich depth of flavors. Sooo smooth and soft, it melts in the mouth easily. Must try!
Mango Mousse with Coconut Sorbet IDR 55k
If you enjoy sweet fruity ending with tropical flavors, this one is highly recommended, soft smooth fruity mango mousse served with mixed fruit, crispy almond tuile and light creamy coconut sorbet.

Milk Chocolate Pannacotta IDR 55k
A small sum of pure bliss, milk chocolate pannacota with hint of mint served with mixed berries and vanilla ice cream. It was rich and velvety smooth with just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess for perfect sweet ending.

Overall, in terms of presentation and taste, Fat Shogun is doing a great job in offering Japanese Peruvian cuisine. If you’re looking for something different, Fat Shogun is a nice option to try. Let’s Jajan!
