Talking about beef ranking, basically there are two grades of beef ranking, Yield and Meat Quality Score. Yield score is classified into 3 grades, A, B and C where A is the highest. Then meat quality score is divided into 5 grades, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 where 5 is the best.

Shabu Shabu Gen offers various shabu-shabu set where each set includes salad, vegetables and ramen/ gohan/ beef rice bowl (supplement IDR 100k), here are the shabu-shabu set options:
– US Beef – Ribeye IDR 650k (150gr)
– Special Beef Ribeye/ Sirloin A4 BMS 3-5 IDR 1.450k (150gr)
– Special Beef Ribeye/ Sirloin A5 BMS 8-12 IDR 1.450k (150gr)
– Premium Beef Ribeye/ Sirloin A5 BMS 8-12 IDR 2.350k (150gr)
– Wagyu Tongue IDR 850k (80gr)
– Foie Gras IDR 750k (120r)
Besides that, customer can also add additional order (additional meat, vegetables, ramen, rice, king crab)

AnakJajan had a sampler set with lil bit of everything so we could taste the difference and show it to you. So, the beef portion in the pictures here is not the actual portion. AnakJajan tried the US beef, Kobe Beef Tongue, A4 Ribeye, A4 Sirloin, A5 Ribeye, A5 Sirloin and Foie Gras. Just look at the marbled beef!! Beefgasm!!

We started the meal by having a bowl of salad with fresh vegetables and light refreshing seasoning. Later than, the staff will help us boil the vegetables and explain to us how to enjoy the beef.

In order to get the best taste of the meat, please make sure to not over cook it. Normally you just need to dip the raw meat into boiling stock for few seconds until the meat changes its color (usually around 10 seconds).

AnakJajan love the way they cut the beef with perfect thickness, not too thin yet not too thick. The beef quality in Shabu Shabu Gen is just absolutely impressive!! We had beefgasm from the first till the last bite, the marbles beef was so so soooooo tender and buttery, it literally melted in our mouths. Our personal favorite would be the the A5 Sirloin. The Kobe wagyu tongue was also very nice, it was by far the most tender beef tongue we’ve ever had.

The shabu-shabu was served with three signature dipping sauces, Ponzu, Yuzu and Goma sauce. Ponzu sauce was our personal favorite, it is a citrus-based soy-based sauce with savory tangy flavor, while Yuzu sauce was very light, fruity and citrusy, and Goma sauce has a creamy nutty flavor from the sesame seed. AnakJajan must say that Shabu Shabu Gen did a great job in choosing the perfect dipping sauce companion for the beef, because the the marbled beef are full of melt-in-the-mouth fat, it needs sauce with a light and tangy character to balance it so the beef won’t taste too heavy.

Foie Gras shabu-shabu is something that you should not miss. Initially we underestimated the taste of shabu-shabu fois gras, because we just couldn’t imagine how great the boiled foie gras will taste, but we were wrong because it tasted heavenly, we were lost for words! The foie gras was very soft, buttery with melt-in-the-mouth texture. It tasted even better when paired with the aromatic Truffle Salt. Must try!

UPDATE:

AnakJajan had a second visit to Shabu-Shabu Gen to try their newly launched menu, Sukiyaki Gen. The Sukiyaki Gen set IDR 1.350k consists of 150gr sirloin beef, vegetables and rice or fried rice, for sukiyaki they use A4 Kagoshima Wagyu Beef. Specially for lunch you can enjoy the lunch set with additional Salad, Chawan Mushi and Dessert. Please play the video for complete look of Sukiyaki Gen.

The sukiyaki was definitely THE BEST I’ve ever had!! Beef was extremely tender and soft with sukiyaki broth that has a perfect balanced of sweet and savory flavors. Don’t forget to dip the beef into the egg for extra silky smooth texture.

Overall, Shabu Shabu Gen is not any common shabu-shabu restaurant you can find out there, the beef quality and shabu-shabu fine-dining experience is simply amazing! Let’s Jajan!!
