HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017 SAHABAT JAJAN!! Thank you so much for all your support since 2011, let’s cheers to more delicious eats in the new year. For the first post in 2017, AnakJajan present you a list of food and restaurant trend from last year 2016 in Indonesia especially in Jakarta.
In this post we want to share with you list of popular, trending or happening food throughout the year of 2016 just for fun and simply as a reminder of what foods that have become trend in our F&B industry. I bet most of you must have followed the hype and tried some of it.
Indomie is undeniably one of the most popular trends in F&B industry in Indonesia. As you can see, lots of Indomie specialty eateries has been popping up throughout the year with unique and innovative creations for example Indomie Sambal Matah, Tom Yum, Salted Egg, etc.
Following the viral Raclette NYC, some restaurants in Jakarta have joined the trend by serving dish with Raclette cheese for example Raclette Steak at Willie Brothers Steakhouse and Raclette Ramen at Ichiro Ramen in AEON Mall BSD.
Remember the Pokemon Go craze?? Everybody was obsessed with the game and lots of cafes and restaurants followed the trend by creating Pokemon inspired food.
BALINESE MIXED RICE
An exciting addition to Jakarta’s food scene, Balinese mixed rice! In 2016, there are several new places that specialize or offer Balinese mixed rice so now we can easily get our cravings fixed without needing to fly to Bali.
Another trending food creation is Sate Taichan, simple and humble chicken skewer dish grilled nicely over charcoal, then drizzled with lime juice and served over chili sauce.
SMOOTHIE AND SMOOTHIE BOWL
Slowly but sure, the healthy food trend in Jakarta is growing as you can see from the smoothie bowl trend. It’s a pretty, instagenic, delicious yet healthy meal replacement.
SALTED EGG CREATION
One of my favorite trends, salted egg yolk creations!! From sweet to savory, croissant to pempek creations, all with salted egg yolk as the ingredients. Dayum!
Nobody can resist the flaky buttery croissant pastry filled with hot melting lava filling, from salted egg yolk, chocolate, cheese, etc. It’s a heavenly combination!
JAPANESE CHEESE TART & CHEESE CAKE
Out of many trends, cheese cake/ tart has become a major trend in 2016 particularly Japanese style with light fluffy texture and AnakJajan think that the trend will continue to grow in 2017.
HELLO KITTY CAFE
The opening of Hello Kitty Cafe in Jakarta in mid 2016 has become talk of the town with its cute looking decor and Hello Kitty shaped food. https://anakjajan.com/2016/05/15/hello-kitty-cafe-pik-jakarta/
I don’t know why, but in 2016 any creation with cheese will instantly become a hit and popular as you can see from many cheese creation dishes below.
